Massive Chalice: Double Fine's Second Kickstarter Campaign

Wow, they're taking a lot of flak from people...
Looks like two major complaints are 1) DF already succeeded with Kickstarter, many feel they shouldn't go back to it, and 2) what does Brad Muir know about turn-based combat (or, how can DF "make a real TBS game" ).
I can certainly see that a slippery-slope emerges by relaxing the standards by which the crowd-funding community vets incoming projects, and that concurrent smaller campaigns can be overshadowed by large, high-profile ones, even though smaller campaigns subsequently benefit from the growing crowd-funding community. Conversely, the "slippery-slope" is considered a type of logical fallacy for good reason. So... a complex issue, here.
Personally, I find it incredibly difficult to attack a project bringing a new interesting game to Linux, from a fun creative team, even if the game concept isn't really my thing (which it totally is!).

Quoting: muntdefemsWhat's more, it is no longer available on Steam. I mean, the page linked from the article returns an error as if the game was deleted or never existed... :huh:Munt, the URL is working for me, here in the U.S. Either it's a glitch, or a change hasn't propagated to the U.S. CDN (or to the CDN serving your area).

For those whom do not remember, Expeditions: Conquistadors was Kickstarted last August [External Link], with their original release estimate set for January of this year.
To my knowledge, this is one of the first Kickstarter games released which pledged to Brian Fargo's Kicking-it-Forward program. It will be interesting to see how they go about meeting that pledge! For a long time now, I've been curious about how that would actually play out in practice.

Humble Indie Bundle 8 has been unleashed to everyone!

Quoting: scaineWeird to see Proteus and Dear Esther in the bundle though, as they're both odd non-games in a way.I don't think so, really. Well, that it's weird, anyway. I'll not weigh-in on whether or not they are games, as I don't believe that can be answered, I don't care, and it doesn't matter anyway. It's not particularly weird because all sorts of bizarre things have been added to bundles, from tech-demos to prototypes to feature-length films ( "Indie Game: The Movie" ). And then, of course, there's Osada, which was weird as hell, but I did enjoy playing with it as an interactive toy :D

Actually, never mind. The two Book of Unwritten Tales games are on GOG, so they probably don't do DRM-free Linux releases for some other reason. We probably need to convince them that it's worth selling through Desura or Humble, or it may not happen.

It could theoretically be entirely built on Unity3D version 3.5, and use a number of 3.5-only plugins (like the popular EZ GUI, which was the reason for a lot of up-front engineering cost in porting Akaneiro to version 4.0). In such a case, the functionality provided by the plugins would require effort to replace.
If we ask the right questions to the right people, we might be able to get a technical answer like that. I wish devs could be more forthcoming with specifics. Certainly it does open them up to criticism about implementation details, but it also garners a great deal of respect in our community.
Openness is something that the indie dev community benefits from, overall, and it is taking an extraordinary amount of time for them to adopt it. At the same time, I'm seeing these windows into their world open up, in large part due to crowd-funding backer relations.
These are exciting and often frustrating times for us :)

Multiwinia requires an external multiplayer key. Aside from LGP, some require a CD-Key, including Defcon and SpaceChem. I'm sure there are others, but not many.

Yeah, me too. In fact, all of KING Art Games titles published by Nordic seem to be unavailable DRM-free. Battle Worlds: Kronos will be, and was marked as such from the start of the Kickstarter! This is a very strong indication that Nordic Games (i.e., JoWooD Entertainment) is responsible for this.
