Hearts of Iron IV gets a free DLC to celebrate a year since release
6 Jun 2017 at 8:18 pm UTC

There's also the Third Rome "immersion pack" for Europa Universalis IV releasing the same day, and if you're going to get both (like me) you can get 10% off by pre-ordering them together.

Need to hurry up and finish my first campaign I guess, I learned the hard way that invading Japan with 12 divisions as New Zealand doesn't get you anywhere good. :P

Shotgun Farmers, a totally hilarious FPS where your bullets grow the guns is out in Early Access

Huh! That looks like a pretty funny idea executed well. Do shotgun blasts make a whole bunch of shotgun plants grow, or just one?

Just got Shadow Tactics yesterday as it's been on my wishlist since the first article about it on GoL led me to download and try the demo, which would have led to me buying it after an hour's playtime if I wasn't underemployed at the time. But now I finally can. :)

Haemimont Games & Paradox announce 'Surviving Mars', a management strategy game
12 May 2017 at 11:56 pm UTC

I'm definitely intrigued by the trailer. I'll be keeping an eye on this as it gets closer.

Quoting: ShmerlSince it's not their own Paradox Studio who have some serious issues with Steam lock-in in all their recent games, do they plan to release it on GOG? Other games from Haemimont came out there (Victor Vran for example).
Depends on how much they plan to update it I guess, since that's why internal Paradox games use Steam; with the frequent updates it'd be too much work trying to maintain multiple different versions of the game. I don't have any firsthand experience with Haemimont Games' games, though, so I couldn't guess.

WolfQuest, the simulation game where you can be a wolf, has a Linux build now
11 May 2017 at 11:53 pm UTC

Oh yeah, I played this on Windows years ago back when it was a free download (probably around 2011–2012). Never thought I'd see it on Linux. :D

Don't expect Valve levels of polish, but it's a decent game (even if the controls can be a bit fiddly, or at least they were when I last played it; perhaps that's been improved by now). The environment is absolutely gorgeous—it's areas taken straight from the landscape of Yellowstone National Park—and I liked the use of a "smell" mechanic, where you can switch to a mode where you can see scent trails left by animals moving about and follow (or avoid) them. It's a really neat mechanic that I've never seen in another game. Plus the music is great. :)

Edit: Wow, just glancing over the list of achievements it looks like they've added quite a bit more stuff than when I last played!

Stellaris turns one year old today, gets free DLC and a patch in celebration
9 May 2017 at 9:43 pm UTC

Well, that's cool. I know a lot of people were asking for a way to get the pre-order portraits. Now I just need to figure how to download the DLC (since clicking "Download" on Steam fires up Stellaris instead…).

The 'Razer DeathAdder Chroma' is quite possibly the nicest mouse I've ever owned

This! I play TF2 a lot with primary, secondary, and melee weapons mapped to my two side buttons and mouse wheel click, and it's so useful for weapon-switching.

Congrats on getting something that doesn't hurt your wrist Liam, that's important in a mouse!

Quoting: rudzhaYou did some research before your purchase, right?
I'm looking for a new Linux "gaming" mouse, because my Saitek/Mad Catz R.A.T. 7 is falling apart.
Can you suggest any other brands and mice that work well with Linux and/or have Linux support?
My Logitech G502 Proteus Core's served me well for a few years now. I think it has some Windows-specific software or something, but I've never tried it, and never had any problems with using it on Linux.

About Linux games being delayed: A chat with several game developers and porters

This article managed to make me appreciate Paradox's commitment to releasing all their games on all three OSs simultaneously even more.

Civilization VI for Linux updated with the Spring Update, no cross-platform multiplayer yet

Some "immersion-breaking" bugs? That's an interesting wordage. I'm curious what that means. Do Linux players get tanks two thousand years early, or something? :)
