Europa Universalis IV: Emperor announced for June 9

Maybe it's time to finally try that Prince of Egypt achievement run by forming Egypt as Florence. I started it once a few years ago but petered out; now with all the improvements to Catholicism and Europe, and what I've heard is a slight nerfing of the Ottomans, it might be time to give it another go. Getting the Lucky Lucca (owning the Indian province of Lucknow as Lucca, a one-province nation in Italy) achievement was one of my funnest games, where I actually migrated to southern Africa, abandoned Italy entirely, built up over a few centuries, then ended up conquering all of India (and getting the achievement for doing so as a European nation in the process!). :D

Quoting: TcheyThe "news" may be annoying, but something that bothers me more is the "your friend XXX has a new achievement" "XXX now owns ZZZ game" etc. I don’t care about that part at all. I want only game related news posted by the team... And i can’t find any option to remove it.Wait, this is a thing? I've never seen anything like that in my news feed. :S: (And I do have Steam friends, honest! :D) Following the advice above about clicking the cog I don't even have the "Only show product updates" thing checked—that's just all I've ever seen there. Strange.
As Stellaris prepares to turn 4, Paradox have a big free update ready for this month

Quoting: soulsourceIndeed, I was being humorous. But thanks. :)Quoting: PhiladelphusHmm, can I finish up my max-size galaxy game before this comes out? :S: Time to find out! :DLuckily Paradox usually keeps the previous version available in a Steam branch.
Quoting: GuestThen again, I've not played Stellaris in a few years and hope they didn't change it too much.Well, about that… The 2.0 update, and several of the updates since, have radically changed certain parts of the game. In my opinion, for the better, but yeah if you haven't played it recently it could be fairly different to how you remember.
Valve adds a 'Play Next' shelf in Steam to remind you of all those games you've never played

(:P)
Seriously though, this is a pretty neat feature (even if, as humorously hinted above, I've got about eight games I desperately want to play at the moment and time to play maybe two or three of them. :) ) I'm pretty chintzy with my games buying—many a Steam sale has come and gone without me buying a single game—but even I have a few games I've only played a short time of and never gotten back to.

If you've ever been stuck for something to play on Steam…I know the individual words you're saying, but when you put them together in that order they just…I–I can't…I don't understand.
(:P)

Software news: Inkscape finally hits 1.0 and Krita 4.3.0 gets a first Beta

Quoting: tuubiThanks, that's exactly what I was looking for! ^_^Quoting: PhiladelphusOn the other hand I've never actually used Krita, I don't think. How does it compare to GIMP (which I'm moderately familiar with)? Not in a "which is better" way, I just want an honest evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses (or maybe the different design goals) of each. I'm always interested in finding and learning another cool FOSS tool. :)Gimp is a general purpose raster graphics editor whereas Krita's main focus is digital painting. If I need to manipulate an image in any way, I grab Gimp. If I feel creative and want to doodle a picture, Krita's slick UI and workflow can't be beat. Oh and Krita also has tools for keyframe-based 2D animation, but I'm not very familiar with that side of things.

I'll definitely need to fire up TF2 this month and check those out to pay my respects.
I also coincidentally just downloaded voice packs for the various mercs for XCOM 2 a week or two before this happened, time to give Soldier a suitably glorious part in retaking Earth in my current playthrough!

Ah, Inkscape. First found it maybe 10 years ago now? Wow, how time flies. It was my first introduction to the concept of Scalable Vector Graphics, and I was intrigued. I've used it off and on since then for many things, and loved every minute of it. I've recorded time-lapse videos of myself creating vector versions of flags from Europa Universalis 4 so that the wiki could have larger-scale versions of them, and made artwork and informative graphics. So cool to see it finally reach 1.0, and looking at the change log there's a lot of good stuff in there that I'll need to find reason to check out soon! :)

Quoting: midget_3111Thanks. :) Seemed like it worked, though I'll have to play around with it a bit and figure out what it all does (not ever having used the overlay before).Quoting: PhiladelphusLooks interesting, but how exactly do you use it? I see it has instructions on getting the dependencies in the readme (and I'm on Debian so that's no problem), but do you just download and run the Python script after that? Am I missing instructions somewhere? That's it! Early days yet, but when we reach our next release milestone we'll sort out a proper Howto guide with it as well.

Quoting: MrNilssonHey, sorry for the late reply. Yes, it's now possible to play it with a custom Proton version.Huh! :O Ok, interesting, thanks. Admittedly, I haven't tried dealing with custom Proton versions yet and I've got a few new games absorbing my attention just at the moment, but I will definitely keep this in mind. :D My birthday's coming up in a few weeks…
