Can I just say that even though the conversation has gone a bit off the rails here, it's absolutely wonder full that people keep a civil tone!

( bit sad though that civilized adult discussion is such a divination from the norm these days that it's something to remark upon )

Quoting: razing322) Germany ? The heck is happening ? I thought only games with Nazi imagery got banned (for obvious reasons)
The obvious reason being a pathetic attempt at hiding their shameful history from public view. Remember nazi in game are always the villans so there is no chance of the game glorifying it :P
Sorry but have to disagree.
I met germans and I think they apologize too much.
What the Nazis did was a horrible atrocity , but I don;t think Germany today is Germany then.
How many horrible things were done in Europe , Africa , Asia since then yet Germany is held up as the example for human wrong doing. Doesn't seem fair in my mind.
I'm not saying blame Germans today for what happened then, I'm saying censoring media because they contain bits of history your not proud of is a dangerous and slippery slope. Instead own up to it, tech that it's bad and *why* it's bad.

Been meaning to pick this up for some time but people generally warn against it because the community is generally not tolerant of new players.

Breaking Point, an Arma 3 mod is moving to Unreal Engine 4 with Kickstarter, Linux & Vulkan planned

The official site link doesn't work

I can't see to figure out if this is a pure shooter or a survival game - ie does it have crafting, base building, etc?

Parsec is another game streaming service, now with Linux support and it's blown me away
24 May 2017 at 11:09 am UTC

It seems very unpolished

  • you get dropped to a windows desktop rather than being able to click the 'play overwatch' button/icon

  • you must manage and pay for a cloud server your self

And finally what's parsec's angle in this?

Do I need to pay for their streaming client - I don't see any mention of prices on their web site... because remember - if something is free that just means that you are the product.

Looks like Rome: Total War might be coming to Linux, according to Feral's port radar

I get that the porting effort is properly much lower after having done a few of the games already ( if it's made by the same people they properly made it the same way.. ) but I can't help but question the ROI here - it's a 13 year old game being released hot on the heels of a pile of "identical" but newer games in the same series.

But then presumably Feral knows what they are doing :P

SnarfQuest Tales, a humorous fantasy point and click adventure, is available

I like that in a world dominated by digital distribution we still use the term "gone gold" when it's highly unlikely then that they produced a "gold" master cd for reproduction ;)

But then we still use a floppy disc for the "save" icon even though most PC users today properly never seen one.

Enshrouded World, a Leadwerks-powered vehicular combat game has Linux support
2 May 2017 at 8:25 pm UTC

Quoting: TheRiddickThey should have released the engine for free, and put some sort of royality on it if you game actually sells anything.

Not sure if leadworks is open-source, but to survive it would need to be!

This trailer looks like a 1998 game.
The lure of that game engine were precisely it's licensing model (that and the promise of having a professional tool native on linux, hah! ) - unlike most other commercial game engines at the time were there was a monthly, yearly or % fee. Here instead it's a onetime sum and your done, make for a more tidy budget which is important when you are an aspiring indie dev that has mouths to feed.

The game might look like a relic from the 90's.. but honestly so does the editor, it had that glorious windows 95 feel to it "will it crash in the next 15 seconds? who knows? will is destroy files at random with no warning while doing so? who knows?"
