Quoting: stretch611I'd rather play HuniePop.
Ditto. Here's hoping HP2 makes with the Linux.

Not seeing the problem. Sure, the reply assumed you'd be able to recompile whatever was broken, but the bug got fixed.

Quoting: GuestThe problem is that the people who could do something about this, dont want to. They see it as a problem only affecting closed source software, and thus not worthy of any attention.
Lately, they actually have been fixing bugs that only breaks closed source software. In fact, there was a change that broke older 64-bit Unity games in Arch, and that got fixed.

This did improve performance in SR3. Not so much for the 4TH.

Quoting: GuestJokes aside, going down that route has exactly the same problems in the end. I don't think flatpaks are the answer here either.
I think Flatpak is part of the solution. But we have to do something about glibc ABI breakage to really solve the problem.

Quoting: GuestFlatpak isn't really a good solution. It's just basically shoving a huge tree of libraries into a folder and then making sure the app uses everything in that.
Sounds more like AppImage... I thought multiple flatpaks could all run on the same runtime, mitigating the amount of libs you'd have to bundle with each flatpak?

Could shipping games themselves in Flatpak/Snap format mitigate this library breakage problem? From a practical standpoint, this would be a major turn-off to would be former Windows users who are used to their games running for 10+ years.

I think something a little more down to earth would be good to start with. Wayforward would be a good place to start. I think we'd all like the Shantae games on Linux.

Quoting: ShmerlRyan Gordon can do something similar, and for example implement high quality FOSS DX11 → Vulkan translation layer, that would make it even better.
Not a bad idea. Since Gallium10 or 11 will likely never be a thing (thanks Nvidia). And, theoretically, D3D-to-Vulkan wrappers could be better, performance-wise, than D3D-to-OpenGL.
