Canonical drop the Unity desktop environment for Ubuntu favour of going back to GNOME

Unity might have gotten more traction if any other distro had made it available. I'm a GNOME 3 hater, and a Unity hater, so I stick with Ubuntu MATE and am happy as a clam with it. I greatly missed the GNOME 2 interface, and MATE is even better.

Aha! I finally turned off the overclocking button on my MSI motherboard:whistle:, and Tyranny runs and runs with nary a crash.:woot:

What have you been playing recently and what do you think about it?

Tyranny (after I quit overclocking my CPU and eliminated the hard crash which locked me up totally), and Torment:Tides of Numenara, and, when I think of it, Pillars of Eternity.

I'm deep into the first act of Torment:wub:, and feel like I have already read a novella, which is how I like it.

I fell stuck in Tyranny; I can't go anywhere else on the map, and the same is true of Pillars.:><:

Looks good, but I have never failed to be overwhelmed by Paradox' grand strategy titles, with the exception of Stellaris.

A look at how much RAM you might need as a Linux gamer
6 Mar 2017 at 5:19 pm UTC

Quoting: Nouser64 GB is more memory than anyone will ever need.
And Bill Gates said in the 80s that nobody would ever need more than 640K. I have 16GB and I can't run Pan and a 8-gig RAM VM at the same time. I'll probably spring soon for another 16GB, which I will need if I continue such activity.

This is the game I wanted Pillars of Eternity to have been. PoE's combat was, shall I say, tedious, Tyranny's was better, and T:TON has it perfected. (I know a lot will disagree with me entirely about the combat.)

The writing is fantastic, even if some vocabulary-challenged people may complain about "all the big words," and the story does appear to be a true sequel to P:T. So far, the best RPG I've played in quite a while.
