The Latest Feral Interactive Newsletter Was Rather Interesting

Yes, there have been so many games, it's sick. I have grown...picky about which games I buy. There is even now such an embarrassment of riches for Linux gamers, I'm able to say, "Naw, naw, naw...Oooh!" I certainly have enough shooters. I have a raft of indie games I wouldn't have bought had they not been available for Linux. I have several AAA games, and love having them to play natively. I can remember when the only commercial game (that I wanted to play) was Neverwinter Nights. Now, I have a couple of dozen games I can't resist loading up and having fun.
Life is good!
And Merry Christmas to all!

Quoting: dubigrasuGive me Borderlands, Bioshock or something similar for a change.Uh, Bioshock Infinite and Borderlands 2 have been released (by Aspyr, but still), and, yes, it would be nice to play the originals of both games, but I am not complaining one bit.

Quoting: DrMcCoyYep, you're right; I had forgotten that the hype was about voxels, not anything else. Ah, me. My personal RAM is getting a little unreliable these days... :whistle:Quoting: oldrocker99As I recall, one thing unusual about the game was that it used OpenGL, rather than DirectX.You recall wrong.

I played it too, back in the day. As I recall, one thing unusual about the game was that it used OpenGL, rather than DirectX. In fact, I have wondered if it could be ported; this will be grand news.
If I remember correctly, it is sort of an Elder-Scrolls-in-space game. It would be great to play it again, and, if it looks better, lovely. I have grown a tiny bit tired of deliberately crude graphics (Full disclosure: I play Dominions 4, which has...adequate graphics) in lots and lots of indie games. In other words, bring on the better looking games! Not that graphics are essential, but they do add a nice sheen of professionalism.

This does look pretty good; I've been playing Pandora:First Contact, a descendant of Alpha Centauri, and its price is right. I may yet spring for CIV:BE, and I may not.

Aspyr, when they saw a CIV V thread devoted entirely to Linux users thanking them for the rock-solid native port. They are working very hard to keep the AAA games coming. You have to love a porting company like them, and I certainly do! Feral, too!
GOL is a site I visit every freaking day, because it's a chance to interact with other Linux gamers, because I find out about games I might have missed, and sales, and crowdfunding, and more! It is my favorite gaming site (and I visit a lot of gaming sites). I am hoping to write a review or similar article in the next year, to give back a little!
I would love a key; my budget:'( can't allow a purchase...it's OK if it doesn't happen, but I'd love a key!

Windows Games On Linux, WINE & PlayOnLinux

Quoting: Segata SanshiroBefore the says of Steam on Linux, I used to use PlayOnLinux all the time to keep all the games in order and manage them in a user friendly way.I may just be lazy; I use POL because it works well enough for me that I can play Skyrim, and Oblivion in the same Steam for Windows interface.
Now I barely use it, used it for the first time in maybe 5 months this month to play FF7. Though it's less essential for gaming than it used to be, it will still always be great for those games we know will never get ported.

Well, I have purchased and used Crossover, and also used PlayOnLinux. I have, to my surprise, gotten better results with POL. I used it to install Skyrim and a couple of others (a lot fewer since CIV V, X-COM, and Borderlands, etc.), and it worked when Crossover didn't.
Nonetheless, I'd not ever seen or tried q4wine, and it looks very good indeed, and major thanks for pointing it out. Of course, when my some of my favorite GOG games are getting Linux versions (even the ones that come as a .tar.gz file that uses wine), I'm using them and removing the POL versions.
Life is good, and the future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.:D
