What a terrific bargain! I had three of the games already  , but the others are very good games (3 or 5 for sure) and I'm installing Vangers now!

Thank you for this notification. One more reason that this is a nearly daily, or twice or more a day reason to log in to GOL, and to support this great, great webpage.

Supreme Commander 2? Skyrim? Lord of the Rings:War in the North? Batman:Arkham Asylum? Banished? Dungeons? F.E.A.R? Warhammer? L.A.Noire? Torchlight II? Magicka(please)? Deus Ex? Fallout 3?

Just some of the games I actually miss from my dual-boot days. I do not miss Windows, however.

Well CIV V was such a delight, and a purely native version too, that it pretty much had to get my vote. Thanks for the opportunity to vote!

GOL Cast: Bringing Humanity To New Worlds In Civilization: Beyond Earth

I've been playing Pandora:First Contact, and it's a lot more like SMAC than CIV:BE, with factions, diplomacy, unique artifacts, and unit stacking (such a concept). I do remember Windows users playing the CIV:BE beta and comparing it unfavorably to Pandora  .

This doesn't mean that CIV:BE is a bad game, but the main annoyance of CIV5 was the removal of unit stacking :><: ; the developer said he regretted that removal, as I recall. I do recommend Pandora, for what it's worth  .

Back to Desurium (sigh) :(

As a long-time GOG customer, I will say that this does seem a little DRM-ish to me. Just my two cents' worth.

Chaos Reborn Turn Based Strategy Now Available In Early Access On Steam

Liam, if you feel overmatched in multiplayer for this game, you have to play a MP game of Dominions 4 to feel completely humbled and humiliated :dizzy:. It remains the very best TBS I have ever played; my previous favorite was HOMM3. Dominions 4 (and DOM 3, for that matter) makes HOMM3 look like checkers, compared to Dominions 4's chess or Go.

The game has a 45 degree learning curve, and, once you've figured out the best way to play a nation, there are 25 or so other nations which are as different from the one you've learned as they are from each other. The AI can be beat, once you have a hundred hours of gameplay under your belt. Playing MP (usually by email) lifts the game about seven stories into a completely absorbing, and, yes, humilating experience, which you will probably love.

Dominions (1, 2, 3 and 4) are notorious for the barely-adequate graphics, and praised to the skies for the incredible, Marianas Trench-like depth of gameplay. The developers have day jobs, and gameplay has taken precedence over graphics (as it should). The official forums are on http:www.desura.com, and it's also on Steam. It's also currently on sale on Steam.

Hmmm. Maybe I should do a review here; I started playing DOM3 in 2010, and one big reason was its cross-platform release. Although it's developed on Linux :), it's available for Windows and OSX as well.

Planetary Annihilation Major Update, Unit Cannon Makes An Appearance

It's always run just fine for me using nVidia.

This was a game I Kickstarted, and, boy, did they deliver. I can't think of any other RTS with this game's depth, frenetic action, and ridiculously overpowered units, which, of course, aren't overpowered by the time you need them :D .

Now, with this and Wasteland 2, the AAA Kickstarted games I'm waiting for is Pillars of Eternity and Torment:Tides of Numenera ^_^ .

OpenMW Releases 0.34, 1.0 Looks Closer Every Day

Actually, both Arena and Daggerfall run on DOSBox.

Morrowind was a great chapter in the only five-part (!) Elder Scrolls (Arena came out in '94, Daggerfall in '96, Morrowind in '02, Oblivion in '06, Skyrim in '11 (they haven't exactly been cranking the ES games out, over 23 years). It isn't quite as amazing to play as Oblivion or Skyrim, but it is certainly far, far better than the notoriously buggy Daggerfall and the incredibly difficult (at least at the start) Arena. It has a good main quest, and, of course, it allows you to roam hither and yon without touching the main quest. It does not have the player limitations of Skyrim in particular, which only awards skill points for action in combat, although Skyrim does allow upgrades during combat, instead of requiring the player to find a bed and sleep to upgrade.

It may not be quite as amazing-looking as the later games, but it was definitely a 21st-century game, and certainly looks great, especially in these days of 80s-style graphics. I've been following the OpenMW changelogs for some time now, and it is looking better and better. The great news to me is that they're allowing all the mods, even the really huge ones. I may dig out my old MW disks and go tramping in VVarvendell again; it's been quite a while since I did!
