Small site update in regards to the moderation queue, which is now live on article comments

Quoting: liamdaweThere's a link to the rules above the comment box ;)

Oh and as for trolls, I have no issues removing them. Anyone dancing around rules being an idiot deserves to be removed.
Well there we go then :) Typical of me - it's two inches from my nose and I somehow miss it :). They look pretty straight forward. If you add anything, I would suggest adding a rule about direct threats.

I agree that trolls will be rules lawyers, but my point still stands. It's a set laid out rules for folks to follow. You don't want ambiguity or you can be perceived as arbitrarily enforcing the rules.

Like McCoy said, if they want to troll and play games, it'll be pretty obvious, just ban them and move on. If they happen to point out loopholes in the rules, you can still ban them, and then adjust the rules to match the intent better.

As for personal interaction, I think it's very easy to codify. No threats (should be insta, perma ban imho), no use of words that are considered 'racist' by the general population, no personal attacks (i.e. "your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!").

That means even a heated discussion can be moderated. If one or more posters resorts to personal attacks or anything worse than "I think you're fricking stupid for thinking 'X'!", you can mod, warn, or ban or shut the thread down as per the rules.

Moderation is cool...in moderation of course :). If you're going to have a system that limits users based on behaviour, then there should be a well defined 'rules of conduct'. If you warn someone, you can point to a rule. If you have to ban someone, again, you can point to a clearly defined rule. Makes it clear for your users what's expected of them and allows you to moderate without getting into arguments (i.e. "You broke rule #4 twice.." instead of "well, I just don't think that's what we want here").

Also, the rules can be something you and the 'community' come up with together, so everyone's on the same page :).

Valve have changed how gifting games works
4 May 2017 at 10:16 pm UTC Likes: 2

TBH - The refund shouldn't happen unless the gift is declined and the purchases opts not to keep it for later in their inventory. I can't tell you how many games I've bought on sale, saved them in inventory, then gifted them later for a birthday, christmas, or good report card. Also, by buying on sale, I can later gift several at a time instead of just one.

As long as this is implemented, I'll only be buying games for myself from now on. That means no more four-packs either to give out copies later.

Linux gamers on Arch may want to hold off on updating due to openssl breaking some games (updated)

For an interim fix, you could put in a symlink from the new libcrypto to the old name. Not at home at moment, so I can't test this myself.

Overlord, Overlord: Raising Hell and Overlord II look set for Linux ports soon
6 Mar 2016 at 12:22 am UTC

Now this is where a wrapper is actually appropriate - an older title (this is 9 years old) like Overlord. As long as the performance is good, I'll be very happy to play it with their Eon wrapper. It's a very good game. I guess it would be considered a third person strategy game.

Saints Row IV now available on SteamOS and Linux

GTS 450 1g
AMD FX-8350 8 Core
8g ram

I installed and ran the game with the 'medium' settings (no adjustments) - I have not gotten any stuttering that I could see. I've had a blast so far. My only quibble with it so far was the first 15min seemed about 13min of cutscenes/2 min of actual control.

Edit: Went back and turned on the FPS counter - I'm getting 40-45fps running around the town doing stuff.

Quoting: liamdaweWell, not counting unfinished games then :P
Then you shouldn't count Dungeons 2 as it doesn't release until April 24th. War for the Overworld, however, releases on April 2nd :D
