Life is Strange released for Linux & SteamOS, some thoughts and a port report included

I see that the "Feral makes horrible ports" card has already been played. Maybe it's better to actually report the issues instead of just complaining about it in here.

My personal experience is that it runs very well on my GTX 760 which isn't the newest card by any mean. Highest settings and it runs around 60-100 fps and I hope that the framerate stays that way when I play some more of it. Using the 367.35 drivers btw.

WienerWuerstelVery nice! I hope that some AMD owners out there can report us that it also runs great with the AMDPGU(PRO) drivers, or else it makes my decision for a new graphics card even harder .

Ha, yeah I'm in this boat too...

My heart says RX480, my head GTX1060!

We are in the same boat indeed . The only difference is that my head tells me to buy the GTX 1070. AMD is heading into a good direction but it's still going to take a couple years before it's really going to be competitve with Nvidia in all games on Linux (*cough* Feral and VP *cough*.

It's great to see a DRM free release but it's also a shame that I can't play it (for now) even though I own it on Steam.

Cheers to all the developers that made this happen. Can't wait for all the upcoming improvements/features.

I also heard it on the Podcast that the Linux version is being handled by CodeWeavers. I'm probably also the guy who posted it on Reddit and Steam . Add the fact that the executable on SteamDB is literally called "bin/cxsteamwrapper" and it's pretty much confirmed to be a wrapped "port" by CodeWeavers.

zimplex1I wonder if the positive experience/feedback the LED devs received had any influence on this decision?
Highly doubt that. It's just that enough Linux users asked for a demo.

Nice to see that they'll release a demo for Linux. I sent them a message about that on Kickstarter and it seems that enough people asked for a Linux demo. Let's just hope that the demo arrives before the Kickstarter campaign is over.

niarbehtI wouldn't mind spending $300-400 on a even more dope RX 490, but I'm not sure how long before that will be a thing, have cash - want awesome open source graphics card.

Looks like the RX 490 will arrive at the the end of this year or (early) 2017 according to the AMD roadmap.

So it's up to you if you want to wait at least 6 months for the RX 490 or get a RX 480 right now.
