Alexis Kennedy of Weather Factory puts out open letter against Failbetter Games

It sounds like Failbetter is doing the only reasonable thing: not talking. In the face of accusations of legal impropriety, the only correct response is to say nothing and get lawyers involved. That Kennedy is making these claims in public conversation, as opposed to via a solicitor and a court, does not make me think well of his accusations.

Also, "cancel culture" seems to mostly be about people who haven't been able to speak out, or have been afraid to speak out, starting to talk about what's happening to them. I think it's doing far more good than harm.

The Valve Steam Deck, lots of excitement and plenty to think about for Linux gaming

I put down my $5. I don't see the 7" screen being great for Civilization or Stellaris, but I'll love having a handheld for a lot of my library, plus Dolphin and other emulators for older titles. My kid is thrilled about having a way to play all the Lego titles in the car.

This looks a lot like Excite Truck, an old Nintendo Wii racer. I loved that game, and might want to check out this one, too.

I'm having fun with it, it's very good at inducing that "just one more click" feeling.

Also, as a note, I've been playing it about half of the time (Steam says a total of 6.5 hours) on a laptop with integrated Intel 620 graphics, and it hasn't given me the slightest problem. This game manages the impressive trick of looking good while having very low system requirements.

Voxelgram is a sweet 3D version of Picross and it's now on Linux

Quoting: monyarmCool. This is essentially a PC version of the DS game Picross 3D. I loved that game.
That and its sequel, Picross 3D Round 2 for the 3DS, are some of the most satisfying puzzle games I've ever found - I like them much more than traditional Picross. I'm really glad to see this new option, going to give it a try.

Quoting: ageresThe "SDK" for LowRes NX is available on AUR while the core is not yet. You can use lowres-nx to load and play .nx files. I wonder why they decided to use BASIC-like style with bunch of GOTOs instead of something that Dijkstra would have approved.
i guess some of those old games were made in basic, so this move will make old developers confortable and new ones more familiarized on how things used to be
A lot of the commercial games from the early boom in home computers were programmed in BASIC. The most notable that come to mind are Ultima 1 and 2. I'm willing to bet that a BASIC-like language would especially appeal to the generation that was exposed to BASIC as children, and now want to tinker with their children.
i was refering to console games, i know it was used on pc, but i didnt thought much about it, since were talking about an console...
i'm not sure if the consoles were strong enough to run games made with it
Sorry, my misunderstanding then - I've always been more of a computer gamer.

I don't think any of the video game consoles from the '70s and '80s had games programmed in BASIC, they would have been ludicrously slow.

The upcoming modular Framework Laptop sounds super exciting

I really want this to succeed.

Lenovo Thinkpads, at least the T-series that I'm familiar with, have always been great on user/field serviceability to replace parts. The full service manuals are PDF downloads, entirely free, and parts tend to be readily available for not-crazy prices.

This looks to be taking the idea of Thinkpads and running with it. A year from now, if Framework looks like it's going to survive for the long term, and the costs are acceptable, than it's going to be at the top of my list for a new laptop.

Quoting: pageroundThe hardware looks excellent! Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Liam, I had no idea. Going to go see if I can build one :D
Agreed! I already have something similar targeted towards the GameBoy, the GB Console [External Link], that I put together last March. I don't have any N64 cartridges (never had the system), but they're cheap and plentiful at flea markets around here.

EagleDelta and ElectroDD, thank you both very much for your replies, that was helpful information. It sounds like X4 may not be for me.
