I should check if the game works again, I found after the last expansion the game would use up all of my RAM, sometimes before finishing the load screen, and just locking up the entire system. I have 16GB too.

Really don't like the sound of this sort of thing. For their own servers they can run what ever rules they like, but I don't like this being applied to private servers, it is like policing what someone is allowed to say in their living room.
If it was an opt in/out flag for private servers I could accept that. Show an icon next to servers which will block blacklisted users and report blacklisted words.
I suppose you can pirate the game and turn off server authentication though. But having to pirate a game I paid for seems strange.

That is a huge number of games, does itch let you filter games you own in a bundle to search by things like single/multiplayer and genre at all?

Ohhh a new Spring engine RTS? Used to play Zero-K a hell of a lot, must have been about 10 years ago I started playing it, not been on so much recently. Certainly going to try this out!

Just got it and quite enjoying it. Almost like Rimworld where you make an empire instead of a colony.
One thing to note is the GoG version just does not launch at all because for some reason it requires steam files. I renamed the start.sh file and made a new one with the following to launch the game using the normal GoG created shortcuts:

Free and open source RTS 0 A.D. Alpha 25 to release in June with feature-freeze imminent

Not played in ages, think I will go and play now and see what's changed, although looks like A23 is still the latest on the Ubuntu repo and the 0AD provided packages only go up to Ubuntu 18.04. Just compiled A24 (after compiling the latest code by mistake first) and seems like its working. Although now what I have a build for 2nd June may as well try giving that a go as well.

As someone who currently works in a computer repair shop in the UK this does sound interesting. Wonder if I could encourage my manager into getting a bunch of parts for these in stock so we could build laptops to order for customers while they wait - that could be pretty cool if it works out. Would want to see the hardware for myself once it comes out first though.

mmmmmm pies.... ahem.. Been playing the game again lately, only briefly on the RC versions of 1.14, most of my time is playing the previous 1.13 which is still pretty good, just gone through Autumn and starting to get a little bit of snowfall from the start of winter. Looking at the 1.14 update adding steel looks like ill need more fuel, has me thinking similar to Saruman - The forests of fangorn are at our doorstep, burn it!
Edit: Replies to questions above
-- What does "death" mean for a character? What happens?
You can set this when making a new game, options are drop items on death (like minecraft) and keep items on death.
-- I'm not really into PvP play. Is it possible to find PvE only multiplayer servers?
Yes, running the following command lets you turn PvP off /serverconfig allowpvp false
-- Are there (m)any free servers available for online play?
I have not played MP yet, but I know on the discord there are a few people who mention running servers. Still trying to get my friends to play before I run a private server for us.
-- Is it possible to play local singleplayer without setting up a server? Or if a server must be set up, how I-don't-know-how-to-set-up-servers friendly is it?
Single player is fine, you just go single player on the main menu and create new world. You can also create ad-hoc multiplayer while in a single player game. I think they said they estimate this works for about 60% of people without any other config to play with friends, otherwise you may have to open ports on your router.

War Thunder gets a huge upgrade along with Vulkan by default on Linux (updated)

As far as spending money or not on the game goes, I would consider it if there was anything of reasonable value to buy. Premium gives +2 decals but other than that nothing I care about. I already have vehicles I like driving and the ones I haven't unlocked do not interest me. Maybe a skin or two on vehicles I really play a lot but I already have them. The decorations just look naff tbh.

So that explains why the game is now unplayable for me. You would think 2 years is enough time to work this stuff out, or at least give people the option and tell them about it. I would test the vulkan version every few months and it has always been broken, failing to even get as far as seeing the login screen. Comments about it would be dismissed as "its only beta", so I gave up trying.
Hopefully now they have pushed it out they will actually fix it, apparently if it actually works you get a huge performance bonus compared to OpenGL.
