Dota 2: How Does Ubuntu 13.04 Compare To Windows 8?
8 Oct 2013 at 1:12 am UTC

I have an old copy of ET:QW on disk if you want it.
That's a very generous offer tweakedenigma, thank you :)
I'm not sure how I'd take it though, since I'm pretty sure we live pretty far from one another. I don't want you to have to do anything illegal either (uploading it for redistribution or anything that's against it's EULA).

If there's anywhere I might be able to purchase it online for a reasonable price, that might be a better route to take.

I'm enjoying the videos quite a lot, and they're improving each time. Nice to see, keep it up! If you want an all opengl game, ET:QW. I'm sure there's better options, but it's just off the top of my head.
Thank you mirv :)
I don't have ET:QW and it seems to have been removed from Steam, but I do have Quake 4. If I can figure out how to install that then I'll see how feasible it is to do a good test.

Might take a rest from doing the test videos for a couple of days though, since my hands are hurting quite a bit now.

Please clarify which Ubuntu you got? Did you use unity?
Ubuntu 13.04 with Unity.
It would be nice to see intel GPU performance comparison for a pure OpenGL title.
Do you have any demanding games in mind that can easily be benchmarked, or at least keep the timing as close as possible? I'm thinking of doing an Unvanquished test, since it seems to be a pure OpenGL title (correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe even tuxkart if I can figure out a proper testing procedure.
But can you try to compare WITH otherS desktop environmentS?
I would like to, but I'm trying to keep each video focused. It takes quite a bit of time to set up these tests and ensure things are as similar as possible. Took me 4 days to do this one, but I do hope I can do more tests in the future with different DEs. I did test L4D2 with Unity and LXDE. LXDE gained quite a bit of fps during heavy scenes compared to Unity, so it's true Unity is a bit of a resource hog.

XCOM Enemy Unknown, Civilization V & Borderlands 2 Heading To Linux?
7 Oct 2013 at 9:42 am UTC

I have contacted 2K games about this as they list NBA 2K13 as supporting Linux / Unix as well so it's easily an error on Amazon's side.
Part of me really, reallllyyy wishes that they reply with a "Yes, Linux support is not an error. But we can't talk about it anymore than that".

Unvanquished FPS/RTS Alpha 20 Is Out

I play it once in a while, but the servers are usually empty when I'm awake so it's lonely haha.

Gameplay wise, it's a pretty big improvement over Tremulous (and I played that a lot when I first started using Ubuntu). The thing that Unvanquished really has going for it would be the bots and the beautiful graphics. I tried Alpha 18 with the bots on my own dedicated server, and it was serious fun. The bots still get stuck a lot though, but I understand path finding is not easy to implement in A.I. I bet this game would be a lot more popular if it had a singleplayer short campaign.

Leadwerks Game Creation Tool Makes Progress On Linux UPDATED

Can't wait to see this released. I wonder if it'll bring a swarm of news games to Linux, much like the Unity engine has done so far. Shame Unreal aren't picking up on this.

Valve Reveal Steam Machine Prototype Details
6 Oct 2013 at 6:29 pm UTC

Well, just to mess with us, Amazon has decided to post XCOM Enemy Unknown and Civ5 bundle as Windows and Linux.

LINK [External Link]

Highly doubt it's true. Funny that they'd post it as such though, probably trying to ride the waves of Linux news these past couple of weeks. What's strange though is that it is even written in the title.

From that trailer video, the massive things that are happening to the environment around you look crazy! In a good way.

When you say four player co-op, is this storyline 4 player co-op? Or is it survival co-op without any relation to the story?
