Wine Staging 2.15 released with more Direct3D 11 improvements

Personally i've tried Wine many (staging , devel and stable ) times but it is not attractive for people who are simply seeking their favorite Windows apps on Linux. There are so many workarounds to apply for app to app , you must create seperate prefixes. That is not attractive actually.
Even PlayOnLinux or Lutris like solutions are not working correctly most of the time.

Wine development is rapid, so hopefully it won't be long before more titles keeping people on Windows will work nicely under Wine on Linux.Actually , until they work out of the box people will stay on Windows or will emulate Windows on Linux via vfio at best.

And yes , they are planning to release that on GOG too.

Quoting: mcphailLooks great, and nice to see the assets have been created in blender. They developed that game on Linux , maybe Liam can add that to the article.
I've emailed the developers to see whether they are going to release this on GOG. I'll report back if I hear anything.

Ryan "Icculus" Gordon is looking for new games to port to Linux, pay not required

Quoting: micke1mLast time i checked it didn't work for me on MesaQuoting: LeopardWhat do you mean? Doom 2016 runs well using wine with radv mesa 17.1, I have played it myself.Quoting: Luke_NukemIf only permission from id would be enough , then yeah. He could. But with Bethesda involved it has no chance.Quoting: LeopardYo know he's ported a heap of AAA already, right?Quoting: dorronI'd go with The Witcher 3 and GTA V (maybe even Red Dead Redemption, but guess that's impossible).Save Red Dead Redemption for RPCS3 ^_^
Doom 2016 would be good if we are talking about AAA's but let's be realistic , Ryan Gordon talks about indie games for sure.
AAA port would be so hard for one man.
Doom 2016 (why the fuck didn't they call it Doom 4) with vulkan and idtech is probably the easier end of the scale.
Vulkan is there , you are right. But did you know that Doom 2016 uses a compability profile for Vulkan and most important ; Vulkan open source driver radv is not there yet.
So with that conclusion , it would still be a pain in the ass.
You can't play that game with Mesa Vulkan , you will Amd Gpu Pro.
On Nvidia side , you are cool. No one is using Nouveau for gaming anyway.
Running it with OpenGL on the other hand, does not work.

Quoting: johndoeI would like to see "Banished" (Shining Rock Software) finished for Linux.Yeah , Banished would be a reasonable choice.
When I'm not totally wrong it's the work from a single developer, who never did a OpenGL port before.
He could need some help from Icculus for sure.
Especially small teams which don't have the manpower/resources to make a linux port come to my mind.
Maybe Liam could help here out with a kind of list.
He contacted so much developers to ask for a port but they sometimes refused because of the lack of manpower or OpenGL knowledge.
Legends of Grimrock 2 for example is one of that.

That can be provided with ports have Linux sign near them on stores , not with Wine development.
Wine is John Carmack's solution offer for Linux gaming. Playing games with various hacks.
But Linux needs standart " click and install " people even more , since you can't be a competitor without them ; because they're the market.

Quoting: ShmerlBecause ( at least i think ) he wants to help Linux gaming a little bit more.Quoting: LeopardNot that third party thing solutions.Fine, but since he isn't doing it to get paid, what's the difference? As long as it works well.

Quoting: ShmerlI'm saying that , he ments something can sell on digital stores with Linux banner. This needs a permission.Quoting: LeopardThese titles are their IP's and of course he is talking about a legit port , not some kind of Wine wrapper. What's not legit in the Wine wrapper? It's not modifying the original. So it's completely legit.
Not that third party thing solutions.

These titles are their IP's and of course he is talking about a legit port , not some kind of Wine wrapper. Because of that , he need to ask.
Otherwise , why he would ask this in the first place? He would join to that Wine Josef guy for Witcher 3 or Dx 11 implementation crew.

Quoting: ShmerlWow , wow , wow.Quoting: LeopardI don't think Cdpr ans Bethesda like big companies allow him to do that.I don't think he needs to ask them (see Wine example above). But even if he does, what do they have to lose if he isn't charging them? Flying Wild Hog were OK doing it for first Shadow Warrior, and it were just a few people working on it (sequentially).

I think he wasn't mentioning big publisher/producers when he is saying these words ; which is pretty obvious.
Linux friendly but small teamed dev groups and their games will be a realistic target.
I don't think Cdpr ans Bethesda like big companies allow him to do that.

Quoting: ShmerlIt isn't impossible of course but that would require very long time.Quoting: LeopardDoom 2016 would be good if we are talking about AAA's but let's be realistic , Ryan Gordon talks about indie games for sure. It's a matter of time. Since he is not constrained, why not? Józef Kucia implemented a huge bulk of DX11 support in Wine, which essentially "ported" games like The Witcher 3. Surely it took quite some time, but the progress is obvious. Ryan Gordon can do something similar, and for example implement high quality DX11 → Vulkan translation layer, that would make it even better.
