Quoting: ShmerlI'm saying that , he ments something can sell on digital stores with Linux banner. This needs a permission.Quoting: LeopardThese titles are their IP's and of course he is talking about a legit port , not some kind of Wine wrapper. What's not legit in the Wine wrapper? It's not modifying the original. So it's completely legit.

These titles are their IP's and of course he is talking about a legit port , not some kind of Wine wrapper. Because of that , he need to ask.
Otherwise , why he would ask this in the first place? He would join to that Wine Josef guy for Witcher 3 or Dx 11 implementation crew.

Quoting: ShmerlWow , wow , wow.Quoting: LeopardI don't think Cdpr ans Bethesda like big companies allow him to do that.I don't think he needs to ask them (see Wine example above). But even if he does, what do they have to lose if he isn't charging them? Flying Wild Hog were OK doing it for first Shadow Warrior, and it were just a few people working on it (sequentially).

I think he wasn't mentioning big publisher/producers when he is saying these words ; which is pretty obvious.
Linux friendly but small teamed dev groups and their games will be a realistic target.
I don't think Cdpr ans Bethesda like big companies allow him to do that.

Quoting: ShmerlIt isn't impossible of course but that would require very long time.Quoting: LeopardDoom 2016 would be good if we are talking about AAA's but let's be realistic , Ryan Gordon talks about indie games for sure. It's a matter of time. Since he is not constrained, why not? Józef Kucia implemented a huge bulk of DX11 support in Wine, which essentially "ported" games like The Witcher 3. Surely it took quite some time, but the progress is obvious. Ryan Gordon can do something similar, and for example implement high quality DX11 → Vulkan translation layer, that would make it even better.
AAA port would be so hard for one man.

Quoting: dorronI'd go with The Witcher 3 and GTA V (maybe even Red Dead Redemption, but guess that's impossible).Save Red Dead Redemption for RPCS3 ^_^

Quoting: artvandelay440Well, I mean if we're shooting for the stars here, I'd knock on CDPR's door with a whole big box of apology and ask/beg is there's any way they'd consider The Witcher 3 being ported to Linux by this fine fellow.Apology for what? For this?

Looks like GOG Galaxy won't come to Linux any time soon, as it's "not a priority"

Then what should Linux customer do? For supporting competition , buying products from a platform basically saying " Linux users , you are second class citizens " ?
Steam is way to go , Itch.io is also a good drm-free market , Humble is providing drm-free versions also.
GOG is not a must when it comes to Drm free.

Quoting: ShmerlBut GOG doesn't want to be competitive on Linux , they want to be competitive on Windows and MacOS. You can tell that by judging on games they own and availabilty on also Mac and looking at Galaxy Client.Quoting: HollowSoldierLess market segmentation is good for the customer. Keep buying from existing places. It's not like GOG is full of GOG-exclusive titles.Less competition is bad for the customer.

Developers are putting Linux builds in there and Gog allows it because they are getting their cut.

Quoting: TcheySad... I already don't buy from them since some time already, because of Galaxy not on Linux exactly. So, this is only going to enforce my feelings in a bad way...They're not releasing anything for Linux as i'm aware?
Not sure if it's smart or not, as if i, we, don't buy Linux games from them, they might very simply stop releasing games for Linux at all.
Humble, Itchio and Steam are my main stores, and it won't change soon, it seems.

When you compare how big Steam vs Gog and their support about Linux , with your comment you're being unfair to Valve.
Gog is simply saying , Windows and MacOS is all i need.
We're not even %1 on Steam which held much more gamers than Gog , they're still supporting Linux.

Quoting: bradgyI think i'm not unfair to them actually.Quoting: LeopardThus, I won't buy a single title from GOG.That's a good attitude to take if you'd like to ensure they never change their priorities.
I don't want to be hostile to GOG but i don't care a platform which don't care a bit about Linux.
I don't want to be sycophantic to GOG but I reckon you're overly unfair on them. We're still a tiny market. They actually support Linux as a platform. They release what they can within the confines of their developer relationships.
The fact that they haven't yet released a client shouldn't take away from what they have given us (at a brief glance over 700 DRM free games).

Well , it was a very well known truth.
Thus , i won't buy a single title from GOG.
