Feral Interactive have put out a big update to their 'GameMode' Linux gaming performance tool

Quoting: ArnvidrPersonally I'd be more interested to see what the actual changes the lib does, and just make those changes permanently to my system. CPU governor and kernel scheduler could be easy fixes at least.
Sure, you can set e.g. your CPU governor to performance permanently, though the idea is to do this only when needed since it will effect your power consumption, system temperature and eventually fan speeds too.

The source is here https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode [External Link]
The readme gives some indication what's actually happening behind the scenes.

Quoting: mao_dze_dunDoes it give any tangible performance improvements? I've known about it for a while, but never actually used it.
When activated it tweaks your machine for performance at the cost of power consumption. Like @mirv stated, it depends on the game and machine if usage yields measurable improvements. Gamemode is part of the standard Fedora repositories, I have installed it and modified all my steam launch commands to activate it automatically when starting a game.

I guess there is a reason that Feral recommends using it. The DXVK wiki also recommends to change to CPU governor (which is what gamemode does among others).

DXVK 1.0.1 is out for Vulkan-based D3D11 and D3D10 with Wine

Back on topic: Thanks a lot for the new version, the development pace (including drivers, wine, faudio, d9vk etc.) is still astonishing, I'm really curious where we are at the end of 2019...

Quoting: massatt212i dont think he does
cause when i told him use a crack copy of Tekken 7 to fix it, he banned me from his github
You have to admit that advertising cracks in public to someones who works for a company that earns a living by providing a platform for selling games is really not that smart, even if you just wanted to help ;)

PS: Just to be sure that my statement isn't misunderstood, I'm grown up now and I have left pirating games some 20 years ago.

Seems like there's no hope for BattlEye support within Steam Play

Quoting: rea987That's odd, BattlEye previously supported Arma III which was an eON port. It looks like VP's ports are compatible with BattlEye than Proton.
This is because VP used the native BattlEye.
Can't the same be done with Wine? I.e. create some library which interfaces with native one through Windows shim? Their answer doesn't make sense. If it works natively on Linux, it should be able to work in Wine as well in theory, as long as they implement what's needed.
Well, I guess the main point about BattleEye and other cheat protections is spotting and prohibiting the tinkering with the software. And running the software through a layer that does not want to be called emulation but essentially is doing exactly that is a whole lot of hackery that sets off a lot of alarms in BattleEye to flag your PC as an unsafe and compromised environment.
I think Shmerl meant the other way around. I was wondering the same thing. There's a Linux native version of BattlEye, right? Sooo, what if Proton included that, and then the Windows version of the game could talk to the native Linux BattlEye which in turn talked to the Linux you're running, with nothing unusual between it and the OS, and probably not much unusual between it and the game.
Considering also because something similar is already happening between a Steam Play/Proton game and the native Linux Steam client for Steam authentication.

Sorry to disappoint you, but FAudio was already bundled with Proton so nothing changes in this regard ;). See https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Changelog#316-5 [External Link]

But isn't FAudio included in Proton already ?
Yes.
There are next to FAudio2 other fixes in 4.3. As soon Valve adopted 4.3 into Proton we will see much more improvements.
Yes, of course. My comment was for the inclusion of FAudio only, I apologize if I misunderstood the original statement. The jump from wine 3.16 to 4.3 (or whatever the next version will be) as base for Proton will certainly show quite some improvements.

Yes.
But I still needed to install FAudio for Skyrim: Special Edition - and I'm on the steam client beta.
Using Steam Beta is something different than using Proton Beta. I would say you are using Proton 3.16 (stable) but not Proton 3.16 Beta. I'm on Steam stable, but have selected "Proton 3.16-7 Beta" in my Steam Play settings. Could you review your settings there?
Your DXVK hud should show DXVK version 0.96, otherwise you are not using Proton 3.16-7 beta.

Edit: You can also set the Proton version per game (Right mouse button on a game -> Properties -> Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool).

Yes, same here :(.

Very cool and promising effort. I'm glad Josh decided to go the DXVK way!
