Steam continues to get bigger, with another record breaking concurrent user count at 17.6 million

They are willing to promote other peoples steam machine through their site.
They are even willing to develop the software and research the hardware.
But even then: the Vive is from HTC, not from Valve. Researched, developed and designed by Valve, but mass produced and sold by HTC.
They probably took matters into their own hands for the link and the steam controller, as it is hard to push to others without loosing quality.
So no, I think it lies outside Valve's politics to compete with other manufacturers. Yes, I think it would be nice though, but I understand when they do not want to compete with others.

Quoting: dhellionWho already has a Linux console? Valve.I think the stance of Valve is clear: they want to meddle as little as possible with the market.
What should they do to push forward their console? Make deals with publishers and/or developers of the top 40 list to port those games to the console. And advertise it.
Valve itself must do this. It will not happen miraculously.

The amount of ingame, I don't know...
Anyway: I am now 48/7 online with a steam machine and a gpd win :-).

Quoting: Xpander56588 Linux users Online in steamI would think the amount of linux users to be (always) online to be higher relative to windows users, for obvious reasons. So also the total online numbers relative to the 0.32%.
21861 Linux users in Game
thats if the 0.32% from the Hardware Survey is correct
The amount of ingame, I don't know...

The 'ARK: Aberration Expansion' is due out in December

If I stay away for a week, first thing I do is gather fish and feed them. Next thing is berries.
It looks like all animals go in a kind of suspended mode when you are offline.
On a side note: I play 50/50 on the GoL server and on my own computer.

Quoting: AnxiousInfusionThe requirements to keep animals alive in that game makes it feel more like a part time job than a computer game. I had to tweak the hunger speed on our server just so we didn't have to log in every IRL day to feed virtual dinosaurs. Even with that, everyone got tired of it and left. Wildcard need to ask themselves as game designers if they want to cater to the average buyer or to NEETs who can sit there all day without interruption and tame/feed ARK animals.I have no real problems with the ark configuration on the GoL server.

No windows in this house... But they did something right that makes me forget about graphical glitches. And I also played the first release on linux, which was about 2 ... 7 fps
I will not promote the game at it's full price.
It only works nicely on certain hardware configurations, and that's very sad.
The only game that got more TLC is FortressCraft Evolved, basically because you can let it run while you sleep :-).

Quoting: Nor MantisI admit, I am a Ark fanboy.I bought the season pass the day it came out ;-).
With all its flaws, and there are many. What Liam says about Ark is all true. But I love this game. I play the crap out of it and will be purchasing this expansion.

The big update to Planet Nomads that adds flight and alien monuments is now out
27 Nov 2017 at 8:51 am UTC
The biggest problem with multiplayer: the game is meaningless without others. Like quake3 arena... No others, no game.
Now if you look at planet explorers, that's a really nice game (which gets updated too). It has this story, or secrets, that you won't find out until you have build your base, designed and created flyers.
I hope that planet nomads ends up at least like planet explorers.
Even ARK has a kind of story. Which you will learn if you subscribe to the DLC ;-).

Quoting: TheRiddickYeah they are launching a kickstarter in feburary and hopefully it has a Linux goal or something. To be clear: planet nomads started out the same way (a lot of multiplayer). And they announced linux from the start. It has come a long way since the kickstarter, and I will probably enjoy playing it.

I have all the expansions and whatever.
Still need to finish one of the user stories that had more real-life adult content.
I hope I can just rsync my directories over the enhanced version,
as all the original keys were broken to begin with and I had to request new keys for all my expansions and original game. Which I got, but I am affraid that it will not start anymore.

Looks like the open-world FPS 'The Signal From Tölva' is now on Linux

I am not that far in yet, I started at easy, and yet it did eat some time from tending to my Ark dino's. And that is saying something.
It's not super relaxed at easy, but it is relaxed. And while being relaxed it does make me think about what happened. I mean: you are injected into a robot's AI. Why are there bad robots?
So if you are looking for action, there isn't. If you are looking for a story: there probably is a nice one. But I am just scratching the surface...
It's like that other game where you crashland on a planet and you realise the planet has already been visited and abandoned by the russians. The actions you have to do holds you off to finish the story too soon so you can think about, long for the next piece of hint about what is/was going on.
This game seems to go that direction.
I have one downside though: on a steam controller the aiming part has a too low resolution.

Quoting: EikeDoes this game have a proper story and ending? For now I am taking over bases of bad robots, and doing things that is explaining what has happened.
I'm fine with strolling aroung a lonely world - if I'm strolling for a reason...

Planet Nomads is about to get a lot more interesting

Just like PUBG or CoD, not an official acronym, but a pretty common one to those that seen/heard of it :-).
FCE does have multiplayer support, and there is a howto, to install the linux server. So if you like automation in a 3D world, it might be something for you.
I've noticed I lack people I know that I want to play with, as in: I know a lot of gamers but I still prefer to play solo. (So if you see someone running away on GOL's ark or rust servers, it's me...).

Quoting: Xpanderwhat is FCE?As Ehvis said, it is indeed short for FortressCraft Evolved.

FCE starts where ARK stopped: automation of tedious tasks.
I've heard there also is some story to ARK, and if planet nomads also gets a story line, I am all for it.
My third favorite is planet explorers BTW.
The only thing is: when do I work/sleep/eat?
Hmmm, maybe planet explorers would work on my gpd win (with ubuntu 17.10).

Quoting: scaineYeah, single player was a blow, but this is still insta-buy for me. Love the style and I'm a big sand-box fan. Plus, all the co-op mode supporting games I own, I usually end up playing them single-player anyway (hello FortressCraft Evolved!)...I really hope this ends like a cross between FCE and ARK, which are for me the most played games.
