HL was never story-driven game though, no matter how compelling the story is, it was always gameplay-driven and the story just glues the set pieces together. So to make a movie there would have to be lot of filling in, which I just don't believe would ever live up to the actual story. Plus they would definitely make Gordon talk, and that opens up whole can of worms.

I'm surprsied there's never been a HL movie though, an official one that is, you'd think it'd be perfect movie fodder! There use to be thrown JJ Abrams name around HL movie and thank god that didn't happen. He is lousy director, somewhat competent producer, but entirely inside Hollywood studio machinery, incapable taking any risk, where everything is made by committee and for the widest audience possible.

Quoting: KeyBounceI am having trouble figuring out how to get this to work (I am new to this).ProtonUp-Qt is on flathub, so Discover does list it if you have Flatpak support installed/enabled, given that you mentioned you use *buntu, you most likely only have Snap enabled and need Flatpak packages installed.
I saw a report of a new version of proton (Ge-proton), and the article describes ProtonUp-Qt. But "Discover" doesn't find this, so the Steam Deck / KDE Plasma instructions are a non-starter for me.
I am KUbuntu, with plasma, and lts 22.04. Not wayland, yet (people have been recommending that I switch given X issues).
Steam Deck / KDE Plasma - Open the Discover store, in the search box (top left) type in "ProtonUp-Qt", click it and hit Install (top right).Discover does not list this. Searching the web for "ProtonUp-Qt" lead me to a github page, an install link, and then appstream://net.davidotek.pupgui2 being passed to discover, which complains that it's not available in any repository (with ... grumble, an error message that cannot be copy/pasted.)
Can you help someone that is new to configuring / administering modern linux with this?
(The last time I had to deal with linux was 1999. I knew how to admin BSD back around 1992, mac OS's of various types from 2005-2019 [last version used there was 10.12], but modern linux is like a sea of chaos where the documentation seems dumbed down and/or hidden.)

Quoting: drjomsOH WHOA!Is it actually only Steam Deck? I would have thought gamescope is what drives it, so maybe it could be possible on desktop too... but maybe it needs something underneath (kernel?) and that might not be in the upstream yet.
HDR ON LINUX?
Ok i get it it Steam Deck only, but HOT DAMN!

Quoting: pete910Could have squeezed kernel 6.6 in :tongue:This isn't Ubuntu, there is no reason to squeeze in a specific kernel version. Fedora has rolling kernel version, so soon enough 6.6 will be in the updates for Fedora 39 and Fedora 38 too, and kernel 6.7 after that, etc... until the distro goes EOL in 13 months.

Quoting: GuestFar Cry 2 has some annoying parts, like enemies on blockposts chasing you until you kill them, and the game itself feels quite monotonous, but the atmosphere of war torn african country and depressive mood shown well there. today I wouldn't replay that game, it will take too much time for not too much enjoyment.Well, all Far Cry games are monotonous :grin::tongue: some way more than other. You don't have to climb any towers in FC2, sooo... that's a plus, right?

The question if its worth to play any other... well, I would say FC3 is still worth it as it cemented the formula. Then there is Far Cry Blood Dragon, which is also plenty fun (spin-off FC3 with parody 80s sci-fi craziness).
And that's about it, FC4 is not bad, but doesn't do anything new... and I haven't played FC5, but I got FC6 for free with new AMD hardware and I would say that free is about right price (even though I still question if the time spent was worth it). If anyone said its on sale for 50 cents, I still would not recommend it.

Quoting: fabertaweTalking of Far Cry 2... I'm not sure if I played this years ago or the first one but are any of the later ones (3 on) worth playing? This is the sort of game I don't mind picking up to play through Proton, as they're often good games and dirt cheap after all these years.Far Cry 2 is actually pretty good. FC2 at a time was quite novel and fresh, and set up some of the ideas for the upcoming titles, like moral ambiguity of shooting people (even if those are bad guys).
