A Very Important Announcement For You
18 Aug 2014 at 1:18 am UTC

Liam,

you have been doing a great job -- maybe too great. Just about every community this size has some people who are too self-centered to care how their arguing and criticizing can demoralize people who are doing all the hard work. Or maybe they have a handicap that prevents them from even realizing it. Not to mention ordinary folks can be having a bad day and say something stupid.

On the whole GOL is better than most online communities, and I chalk it up to good leadership. If you ever get to a better place in your own life where you are strong enough to come back and lead GOL, I'll be ready to do a monthly pledge again (and hope to be able to talk more people into sponsoring for that matter!)

New link for Stash: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/frogdice/stash-no-loot-left-behind-pc-mac-linux-consoles/ [External Link]

Previous campaign caught the attention of OUYA and some other console makers, so this time around the goal is cut to $50k due to matching funds

I think Kaptain Brawe is eventually going to make it as well... that makes 3 for 3 in the adventure category

Neat to see this one getting released -- was one of Munt's picks little over a year ago

Being text-heavy won't bother me, sci-fi theme sounds good.

SteamOS Update 123 Pushed To Alchemist Beta

I'm planning to get a SteamBox with controller when they come out, so I hope the controller does turn out to be pretty versatile as intended. Only time will tell though.

Quoting: edqeI hoped this update would have been fixed the mouse stuttering problem but unfortunately it didn't.

Long long way to go but I hope these kind of problems will be solved before the first official release.
I think mouse is low priority fix for them as OS is intended to be used with gamepad
Well, that's sad to hear. There are already lots of games for SteamOS where gamepad is totally useless; 4X, strategy, RTS, simulation, complex cRPG, FPS, etc.
One theory is that the Valve controller won't be useless for those other types of games, since that was exactly Valve's purpose in bothering to design a new controller.

Quoting: oldrocker99ReignMaker: This is a mashup of match-3, tower defense, and city building, and pretty much unlike any other game on Steam. Tougher than you might expect, and a lot of fun.
Oh yeah, ReignMaker really is an unexpected gem :)

The previous FrogDice game, Dungeon of Elements, was a rather odd mashup as well that turned out to be more fun than I'd expect from the description, but this one especially is deeper than at first glance. The match-3 seems like a casual game where most of your brain goes on auto-pilot except for the pattern matching (like with tetris-y games) but you can't afford to just do that in ReignMaker and still beat the bosses -- need to wisely choose your resources ahead of time to fit the battle (pick subset of equipment types, spells types, and only 2 types of troops) and keep deploying them at key points during the battle (each equipment is limited in stock with some quite expensive to rebuy too often; keep track of troops to help keep them alive, or at least call in replacement when one dies; spells need to be powered up with varying number of matches between casts... more powerful needing more matches to recharge).

The Little Acre
And a cute point-and-click adventure. :)
Thanks for highlighting that one, it looks promising http://www.adventuregamers.com/news/view/26624 [External Link]

Also 39 Days to Mars sounds like it could be fun, especially if my gaming buddy is up for the co-op

Spellcaster might hit that classic RPG spot, but not quite sure about that drawing-runes-to-cast-spells mechanic

Finished a Rube Goldberg puzzle game recently (kinda fun but very short). Been playing Quest for Glory in ScummVM with my two best buddies, and started playing Sunrider last night due to Liam's recommendation. Hope to get in Worlds of Magic beta, in which case I'll be playing that soon...

Quest for Infamy, A Point & Click Adventure Released For Linux

Quoting: Guest
Quoting: GuestNo. it uses the AGS port for Linux.
Which is really crappy… Usually you’re stuck with a tiny window, or you have to hunt for a hidden config file and tweak it to get a huge window bigger than your screen instead. I’m avoiding AGS games from now on.
The AGS port is open source! We as a community can get this stuff fixed, there is NO reason to give up so quickly. Please keep reporting issues and test updates as they get cranked out by the team of Linux AGS devs (which includes our own s_d as you can tell).
