Will gog.com Ever Support Linux On Its Store?

Quoting: ShmerlI actually would strongly dislike if they'll release DOS games for Linux with bundled DosBox and ScummVM - it's extra clutter. They can specify a simple prerequisite - have DosBox / ScummVM installed for those games. Users aren't dumb, and if they are interested in old DOS games, they already have DosBox and ScummVM installed with high probability (and if they don't, they'll easily install it from their repositories). Many Windows users are also "noobs", yet GOG don't bundle for example DirectX with each Windows game.
DosBox and ScummVM are small enough that I wouldn't care if they bundled them to make an out-of-the-box experience for those who want it -- it's easy enough to delete an unneeded subdir after the game is installed, like gogonlinux already does for a bundled windows DosBox

Also like to point out that I signed up for a GOG account exactly to sign that petition, though I now have a few games playable through ScummVM (plus another playable in wine, and another that may not get played because it didn't like my wine) in that account thanks to some kickstarter rewards. Have not directly bought games there yet, still waiting for that Linux support to materialize. How hard would it be to at least support Linux dosbox and ScummVM like PlayOnLinux? They could start selling a bunch of old games with a Linux option that way, and I would consider them interested in having my business.

Me and my friends played the heck outta original NWN (all the official campaigns, and all the interesting multiplayer campaigns we could find at NW vault) so it worked fine with Linux distros of the day. Have not tried installing it in recent years though; what kinds of errors do you get?

That's kinda typical for teams that don't have a stickler for style who has authority to force everybody to use the same -- just officially having a style guide isn't enough

Hey at least you can keep it running on future Linux versions! So it's not totally worthless.

Quoting: Grammar PoliceOh, maybe you meant "game Demos" ??
You've unnecessarily capitalized a common noun, namely "Demos".
Is capitalization under the jurisdiction of the Spelling Police? I have never been Quite sure...

Sorry to say that Project Ravensdale was not doing well enough to be classified as "still in the running" for the purposes of writing the article -- I've been working a fair amount of overtime and barely had time to cover the ones that had more hope of funding. Even a rave review on IGN would have a hard time stirring up $450k worth of pledges in less than a couple weeks, so I don't think the additional coverage here (it was featured last week after all) would do the trick.

Also I know you said the list was just off of top of head, but I'd like to point out that old Broken Swords were not available natively for Linux (though Scummvm can be used to play 1&2 which is as good as native) so Revolution Software is not holding out on us. I expect the new Broken Sword to get listed with all its platforms -- one of the core devs is even a Linux guy (Joost Peters http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/165500047/broken-sword-the-serpents-curse-adventure/posts/307066 [External Link] )

So have any of the devs admitted why they didn't submit an already-existing linux port yet? I see Amanita has not been answering about Machinarium/Botanicula, for instance. It could be they have qualms about trying to support large numbers of Linux users due to the issues of Adobe Air being abandoned on Linux after they did the port, but at least they could say so.
