Well I hope its good, I agree we do lack good fps games on linux especially ones with good single player stories and experiences i can think of three and two of them are from the same series. If its free or low cost i ll check it out still playing blastic overkill and i got that super cheap while it was still in early access.

Quoting: GuestWell you started the shade just letting you know being good for applications is not really the point you dont go to a plumbing website and ask wheres the best place to buy a plane ticket. Same thing here you dont come to a gaming focused website and say how can i run mircosoft office under linux so back on point lutris is better than playonlinx for its indented gaming purpose.Quoting: Whitewolfe80Quoting: GuestAnd this is a gaming website hence the name gamingonlinux its not microsoftofficeonlinux.com is itQuoting: Whitewolfe80It's a lot better than playonlinux for games* playonlinux has a lot of options for software that is not games, like photoshop, whereas lutris is hyper focused on games.Quoting: RavenheartHow does Lutra rank vs Play on Linux.Lutris is a lot better than play on linux for one thing its updated regularly they have new scripts on a week to week basis and the last time there was an update to the supported games list on play on linux was in 2014.

Mmm personally after speaking to the main developer of lutris more than once if you have a problem with a script as long as you give him all the details he is more than willing to see if he can fix it

Quoting: LeopardYes but only after trying it at 1600x900 and he was complaining the drop in frame rate was very noticeable i personally thought it ran fine but its his call and he was happy at 768pQuoting: Whitewolfe80Did you turn on Vulkan renderer of Mad Max?Quoting: dpanterWell so far under linux and using the mesa drivers the rx 550 delivers 30 fps in the desert and about 23/27 in camps at 1080p putting it down to 768p (high) and sees a return of 42 in camps and around 50 in desert. To be honest the figure surprised me given i had heard how bad this card was but i did at least see it with my own eyes granted i didnt sit and watch for 30 minutes it was more like 5 minutes. However he seems to be happy with the fact he can run it he basically plays mad max csgo and rocket league so he is more than happy with linux so far granted its only been two days but still hopefully he sticks with it.Quoting: Whitewolfe80question on mesa performance and mad max i have a 4gb rx 550 being used on friend windows build ... he gets about 55/60 fps at 1080p med on windows 10.:O
RX 550, 60 fps in Mad Max, 1080p, medium??
Dude, I find that somewhat hard to believe... but I'll take your word for it. Accepting those numbers as correct, I'd say the performance will be fine in Linux with Mesa (although there isn't much actual performance to begin with in this little runt of a card. :P)
The RX 550 is about as powerful as a handful of pocket lint. Comparable to the pathetic GTX 1030. Very low end cards, to call them 'gaming cards' would be extremely generous... but hey, if it runs, it runs, right?
I have a low profile RX 550 myself in a tiny HP machine so I'm allowed to sh*t on this card.

Quoting: SuperKeyYeah you are also able to run with with Portwar s script that is a stand alone installer i use the portwot script from the website to update and play world of tanks on linux.Quoting: rustybroomhandleWarframe has a bug for me where the audio will get all garbled after an hour or so, like it's suddenly under water. Hopefully this will fix that too. It's a minor annoyance as it's easy to make go away, but still would be nice to have fixed.WAIT! Are you able to run Warframe with Proton?

Quoting: GustyGhostIts not same engine just new assets and vo hence why it was easy to add the original l4d to l4d 2 without any engine changes.Quoting: ageresEh it's one of those things that would have been nice for the sake of completeness. How different, architecturally, is L4D1 from L4D2?Quoting: M@GOidAlso, Left 4 Dead 1 still doesn't work for me.But the whole Left 4 Dead 1 is included into Left 4 Dead 2.

Edit updated to latest kernel and for reasons best known to gigabyte the factory overclock reset itself when he went over to linux, i have no idea why card is now back to its factory overclocks with the latest kernel running at 1600x900 at a steady 48 fps in camps and 59 in the desert big resolution bump. Thanks to all that made suggestions.

Quoting: MayeulCThanks I think i ll get him up and running and show him how to update his system. Performance hit should be okay will def try that ppa.Quoting: GuestThat sort of stuff shouldn't happen at all (the game might lock up, not your system), have you checked your drivers, and/or reported the issue?Quoting: EhvisWhen i played Mad Max the game would lock on me a lot while using vulkan. I had to reboot to get the PC to work again. This is the only game using vulkan that had this effect.Quoting: GuestIt would be nice if they ported their old OpenGl games to Vulkan. And also finish up their buggy vulkan renderer in Mad Max.I played through Madmax entirely on Vulkan and only encountered a few minor issues. Wouldn't exactly call that buggy.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided would probably see significant gains by switching to vulkan.
It might help for Deus Ex though. That's probably the most system hungry game they did so far and the only one that is unplayable for me on 3440x1440. That said, it is especially hard on the GPU, so not sure if it would help that much for my particular case.
Quoting: Whitewolfe80question on mesa performance and mad max i have a 4gb rx 550 being used on friend windows build. He has decided he wants to try out linux but he gets about 55/60 fps at 1080p med on windows 10. I have no experience mesa under linux as i have always had nvidia cards what sort of frame rate should he expect i understand there will be some performance loss but will it tank it below a playable steady 30 fps ?I really can't tell it as a general rule. Feral games tend to be 10-30% slower, other ports are usually on par, or around 10% slower. Relults will vary depending on his CPU as well. In any case, he better use updated drivers (and kernel). If he wants to try Ubuntu, just adding the padoka PPA (valve has instructions for this on their proton github) should be fine (though a kernel upgrade as well won't hurt, usually). He can try some of this on a live stick (though disk i/o might be slower).
Be wary, though: except things to work out of the box! :D
