Quoting: mylkaNo not all games but games like Portal etc do because people expect bleeding edge graphics professional voice acting etc example Red Dead Redemption cost 100 million dollars to make. Ahh but we have a disgreement on the purpose of Steam os valve has Steam os as a back up incase windows try to make Windows app store a thing. If they wanted Steam os to be the go to linux distro they would need to make shit loads of improvements not just drivers also the last time they actively tried to talking to developers we got promises of Witcher 3 and Street Fighter 5 and we have neither of those.Quoting: Creakohh boy another card game. i liked gwent on witcher, but im not even playing gwent on gogQuoting: mylkaThey are actually ;)Quoting: GuestI simply love it to see Valve so dedicated to Linux.but why arent they make new games, or just be publisher for games.
Gaben said they are working on several games, two of which are already announced: In the Valley of Gods [External Link] and Artifact [External Link]. The other projects haven't been announced yet.
and a telltale/walking simulator game
dont get me wrong. its nice, but were are the big players? i dont mean hl3, or portal3, but sth bigger than a card game
playstation brings some new games like ghosts of tsushima, or death stranding. imaging such games from valve again
Quoting: Whitewolfe80i dont think all games cost millions.Quoting: mylkaBecause that costs millions of dollars selling games makes them millions of dollars. Its profit versus potentional losses and valve hiring more linux staff is an outlay but its notwhere near the cost of developing a game.Quoting: GuestI simply love it to see Valve so dedicated to Linux.but why arent they make new games, or just be publisher for games.
anyways, i dont believe they make any money with steamOS. they want to bring there OS to the people, then they have to make games for it.

Quoting: ShmerlWhat's worrying in better performance? You can't stop progress.Oh i actually have to explain it. If i am a game dev and I have some linux users asking for a port now currently the options are one do it in house which means hiring staff two have feral do it which obivously incurs costs. Or 3 do nothing and wait for linux users to buy windows copies and play it through wine meaning i have to do fuck all and i still get 100 percent profit. Which one would you choose if its anything other than option 3 your lying or have never worked in large corporation.

The development they are doing sounds good I would love for Steam to actually be able to update to latest graphics drivers for amd/intel/nvidia with a tick of option in steam overlay. I know they tried it in windows but feature never worked properly. I know some want them to incorporate dxvk into steam client for windows games but that will not happen they would need permission from the games companies and more importantly licence fees for that.

Quoting: CreakYeah but those are games that lets be honest very few care about, when you heard valve was back developying your mind went straight to Portal 3, Left 4 dead 3 or Team F 3 or maybe csgo 2 not crappy card gameQuoting: mylkaThey are actually ;)Quoting: GuestI simply love it to see Valve so dedicated to Linux.but why arent they make new games, or just be publisher for games.

With Lutris having the tick to install dxvk its getting very easy to run games with almost native levels of performance which is awesome but worrying. No need to go into it as its been said time and time again. Game companies/deverlopers can read is all am saying.

Quoting: ShmerlI do get what you are saying and it may well be the case but why would need crossover if you can just use something like lutris which is free and community supported and also features one click installs. But sure i guess its a comfort thing knowing if you need them they are there.Quoting: Whitewolfe80I do get why wine development team wouldnt want to as they have a commerical version which sells support to justfiy the licence fee if you have no need of that support its just click and install why would anyone pay for crossover. Maybe just me be cynical but wine devs do need a way to gain money maybe they have a healthy donation pot i have no idea.I don't think it's the reason. Anyone can take Wine now already, and run same thing Crossover offers. They upstream their changes, which is very good of them. People pay them for support to buy commercial versions, because they don't want to spend time on fixing some issues themselves and want to have some official channel to turn to if problems occur.

Quoting: ShmerlI would personally love for wine to be linked with dxvk I am in favour of creating a zero effort experience on the part of the end user with the flexability to get into the code for the those with the skills. The reason is it creates a market where the average windows user would have little to no reason to need a windows installation.Quoting: mrdeathjrHowever for now wine dont have intentions about merge dxvkMore like lead DXVK developer is not interested in it [External Link]. I think for Wine, it would be a good goal to accept it upstream.
It's not such a big deal though. With common tools like winetricks supporting DXVK installation, it's pretty easy for anyone to use.

Wow once again great work and its making lots of games playable that had frame rates closer to slideshows but I do prefer native gaming but I do admit I use wine currently for four games but i am hopeful given THQ recent porting of older titles to linux that they will bring across games like Red Faction Guerilla
