Quoting: KuduzkehpanWhat if Valve buys microsoft first, then open sources it and removes found unsafe codes :D yea welcome to GNU/windows. maybe then we replace kernel and upstart bla bla bla. dx12 with Vulkan. Yea LoL for the night.
Ha, Then it is discovered that it has been BSD with a shell on it since Windows 8, because they copied Apple?

Just as likely...
Well that would be history repeating itself given that Apple gave ms the GUI and the mouse interface while MS was being courted by apple way back in the late 70's
Not that Apple invented any of those things themselves.
No they stole them from xerox i saw pirates of silcon valley
To be fair, everyone at that time was experimenting with everyone's ideas, that's not as if they were the only ones doing this. Also, that's not as if Xerox was going anywhere close to personal computing with its concept. Companies sell solutions, not ideas.
No Steve jobs legit stole the mouse and gui from xerox which Bill gates then stole off apple and unveiled it in Japan for IBM while being on stage with Steve jobs in the states and according to witnesses Steve jobs said we are better and bill gates laughed and said you dont get it it doesn't matter i was first. The biggest irony is it was Bill gates got jobs fired he was also the share holder of apple that hired him back. Also feel free to check Bill gates was a major share holder of apple until they bought him out.

Windows 10 S might alarm Valve into boosting SteamOS again

Apparently, Windows 10 S can be upgraded to a "normal" version of Windows 10 Home for free, but the problem is that Microsoft has said around 60% don't even bother to do the upgrade keeping them locked into the Windows Store.
This stuff right here is just Microsoft preying on the ignorance of its users. Just like the free upgrades to Windows 10, the free upgrade to Windows 10 Home will be gone eventually and all of the people that didn't know to upgrade their OS by then have accidentally locked themselves into using a technically inferior product for no benefit.
Actually I took the opportunity to upgrade my parents POS from windows 7 pro to windows 10 pro for free because touch screen support is vastly superior but to each is own :P
You misunderstood my point. My point is not that Windows 10 is an inferior product but that the upgrade opportunity expired. And I predict the upgrade opportunity from S to Home will also expire and S is an objectively inferior product to Home.
If you wanted to the free option is still there all you need is a vaild win 7 key still they closed the web portal but downloading the iso and using a win7 key still works for free i did an install of it on a rig a friend wanted so he could play pubg.

Quoting: STiATValve is a corporation
I'm not sure it actually is. At any rate not in the typical sense of a thing owned by shareholders, where the shares are sold on the open market. My understanding is that Valve is owned by Gabe and a few other Valve employees, with Gabe holding the biggest single chunk and maybe a majority. Something like that. This means that the management and ownership are basically the same, and therefore that the management does not in effect have a fiduciary duty to the shareholders to maximize profits, unless we're expecting Gabe to sue himself.
This doesn't mean Mr. Newell isn't motivated by money. But it does mean that Valve is run by personal motivations, not by the structural imperatives of the corporate form. It probably wouldn't be wise to trust Valve, in the same sense that it's not wise to trust an individual you don't know personally, and especially a rich one. But it's different from a corporation, where you shouldn't trust it in the sense that you know for certain it would betray you to make 2% interest on a penny.
True enough I still do not trust Valve any further than i could throw Gabe Newell. I am happy when they help bring something to Linux, but i mistrust the motivation valve has. I cannot shake this feeling that eventually they will look at the accounting spreadsheet and start deciding to cut losses. At this point i doubt they would pull the client from Linux but I could easily see them turning off the development tap. On a pety note valve is actually listed as Valve Corporation on the wiki and on the steam store under the help/contact tab.

August 24, 1996 in Kirkland, Washington, U.S. Valve Corporation is an American video game developer and digital distribution company headquartered in Bellevue, Washington

Quoting: STiATPah, Valve sold? Not if Gabe has a saying in it. It's his baby.
Also no need to steam spits out money every ten seconds for valve they are not going to give that up without a fight. They dont make games anymore because well they dont need to anymore. I appreciate the assistance of vr and drivers etc on linux but am still not going to white knight them. Valve is a corporation and no matter what the well paid pr people say corporations do not not give one shit about any of their install base.

Quoting: operaI was really looking forward, to this. Pretty disappointed now. I don't understand how nobody on their side ever noticed they mis-configured their store page after all this time and all the Linux requests they got. As noticed in another comment this is a very poor treatment.
The development team is 13 people including marketing social media etc the actually dev team is 9 people i recall i did read about the company when i thought it was coming to linux really day of infamy is as close to this as you are going to get unless you want to go older and play wolfenstein enemy territory

Quoting: subIs there any realistic estimate on the value of Valve?
Well according to the revenue report they produced for 2017 they made 4.1 billion us dollars note its not all profit but it still a very very large profitable company that MS would have to make one hell of an offer for however, i would not put that much stock into this there was rumour back in 2007/2008 that MS were going to buy Rockstar to counter sony's exclusives but it came to nothing and so will this.
