Mesa 21.0.0 open source graphics drivers out now

Quoting: scaineFrom the #wine channel on the GOL discord, I've seen a few instances where Mesa 21 was causing issues with certain big games, like Red Dead Redemption. A few folk migrated from Padoka to Kisak just to downgrade to Mesa 20 until 21 had better stability. It'll be good to see how that stability shapes up now it's released!
That's good to know, but pretty normal for new releases. Major Mesa releases always have this boilerplate:

"Mesa 21.0.0 is a new development release. People who are concerned with stability and reliability should stick with a previous release or wait for Mesa 21.0.1."
Yep - as Liam noted in the article. But I'm curious, given the issues people had with the release candidates in wine, how this particular release will shape up now it's out.

Comes with a 1030, upgrade to a 3090 for only $3300 more... really? I honestly do hope that NVidia (and AMD too) are genuinely ashamed of what's happening to their brand here. This is just embarrassing.

Cadmus is a new Linux UI for managing microphone noise suppression

Just a quick note that Cadmus updated 0.03 last year and seems to be working again. I'll add this comment to the NoiseTorch article too.

Building a Retro Linux Gaming Computer - Part 2: Selecting a Graphics Card

Love these articles, Hamish. Keep 'em coming. I remember fondly my first experience of switching from software rendering to... some kind of Voodoo card, but I can't remember which one. It was life-changing. I mean that genuinely - it was the moment that crystallised the potential of PC gaming for me. First I played Deux Ex, then I played Quake. Every so often, I'd switch back to software rendering just to remind myself how muddy and uninteresting these virtual worlds were before hardware acceleration.

Back then, motherboards didn't have built-in sound either. Or network for that matter. Stacking the PCI slots in the right order to avoid contact and maximise airflow is a lost art. These days, you basically have a monster GPU... and that's it.

Loop Hero is out now and I'm going to need help to tear myself away from it

Quoting: FifteenthPenHadn't tried the demo, but saw the rave reviews and picked it up.

I intended to try it out and then go back to feeding my Valheim addiction.

Now I have two competing addictions. I'm not sure how I feel about this.
Yep, I have four right now - Hadean Tactics, Elite, Noita and now Loop Hero. I guess I still have Gloomhaven rumbling away with my mates on Tabletop Simulator too, but that's a different kind of addiction.

It's genuinely weird to have this much choice for must-play games. I mean, Humble Choice landed a few days ago, and includes a game I was genuinely looking forward to playing (albeit via Proton, the awesome Valkyria Chronicles)... and I haven't even bothered firing it up even once yet!

I also have Valheim waiting in the wings. As I say, it's kind of weird having so much quality to choose from. I love it!

Griftlands from Klei Entertainment to arrive on Linux in May, full launch this Summer

Klei rock, simple as that. Really looking forward to this one - like all their games it's an insta-buy for me. I have the whole of spring to wear myself out on Loop Hero to get ready for this.

Would love to see them release Hot Lava too, but despite a few vaguely positive messages about it coming to Linux, nothing's ever happened. I suspect it just didn't sell well enough and they just can't justify the effort to port it over.

But a big +1 for this announcement. Can't wait.
