Quoting: CybolicI don't see anyone's bashing Epic for "a" business decision or is targeting their lack of Linux support, but looking at the company's practices in general, there's certainly enough to criticize - just like a large part of the general, non-Linux gaming community is already doing.
There's shaming (22 likes so far) for the client not being released for Linux. And there's also negativity around EPIC's invitation to Lutris for financial support - which I assumed, in the context of the news, that it wouldn't be interpreted as any other kind of support.
No one is "shaming" Epic for not releasing the client on Linux. Where are you getting that from?

But I'd happily shame them for their exclusives. Or for throwing peanuts at the Lutris devs for doing their "Linux support" for them. I sincerely hope that the Lutris grant is to the tune of the $2M they threw at the Phoenix Point devs... but I doubt it.

They deserve a bit of shame in my opinion. But you're doing your best to defend them, which is odd, because you keep claiming to understand that they're bad.

There's other pieces in your latest mega-reply I disagree with, but I'm tired, and this discussion has run its course, I think. I do my honest best not to reply if it continues!

This'll be an insta-buy for me once it's out of EA. Love the look of it and I get the feeling that it might work on my Intel-graphics laptop (fingers crossed).

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoNow, the important: Can I play METRO EXODUS "Out of the box" on Linux via Lutris?
Pretty sure it's gold rated, so if you don't mind being counted as a Windows sale and you don't mind Epic reaping your details, I think the answer is probably "yes".

But actually, checking the reports out, it seems that the answer is actually "no": https://www.protondb.com/app/412020 [External Link]

I wonder what Proton has done differently from Lutris in this case?

Quoting: liamdaweHonestly, I think it's crazy how many people turn their noses up at Wine. I've said it before and I will say it again, without Wine letting me play some games on Linux in the early days I simply wouldn't be here today.

I now take what I can, where I can. If I can get a game working on Linux, officially or not and have fun with it that's what matters most. The majority really don't care about the little details, they just want things to work.
Im a Wine user too, but the way you present it is the source of all the problems in the world.
Exaggeration much? But Wine is commonly maligned by hard core Linux users and Liam's comment simply acknowledges that elitism, while rejecting it.

Quoting: orochi_kyoAnd the fact your comment got 36 likes, well, I dont know what Im doing here. The reason I get from people who uses Windows is the same you are using, they want things to work. As a Linux users we should be straight with the fact we always have to do the extra mile. So you only wants things to work? Why the ... are you using Linux?
It's a news article that announces new functionality AND suggests that Lutris might be about to get a huge cash injection from Epic... what's not to like??

As for wanting things to work - Liam's comment suggested that the majority just want things to work. It describes me, to be honest, but only the in context that I've made my mind up about Microsoft and Apple. That leaves me with Linux. That's why I use Linux. Having made that decision... yes, I "just want things to work".

As I said earlier, though, I won't be touching anything to do with Epic. I'm not supporting bought exclusives, and anything
a Linux user does decide to buy on their half-assed store will count as a Windows sale. It's shitty for the consumer, it's shitty for Linux and I'm having nothing to do with it.

Minimalistic puzzle game 'Simple Dot' releasing next month, looks like it could be interesting
22 Apr 2019 at 11:08 am UTC

This looks lovely, particularly since I can hide the ranking system. Reminds me, weirdly, of N+, but it's a puzzler. I suppose the price will be crucial. Not sure exactly what price point would put me off buying such a simple looking game... I paid £5 for TIS-100 without batting an eyelid though. Maybe a bit more, around the Bridge Constructor Portal £7.50 mark?

Anyway, wishlisted. It's only 3 weeks away.

So, developer Lars Doucet did an interesting twitter thread on Epic's money recently. Have a read here [External Link].

Based on that thread, it's absolutely mind-boggling to think that it's anything other than absolutely trivial for this company to support our platform. But instead, they'd rather throw a rounding error at Lutris devs to absolve all support burden and keep us at arm's length, while they continue to throw anywhere between $5M-$50M at AAA devs to go exclusive on their store.

Pretty depressing. So, well done Lutris devs. I hope they go for and get the grant. But no thanks, not for me. Not touching anything to do with these anti-consumer... people. And Tim Sweeney... urgh. The hypocrisy just gets my goat.

Valve released a stable Steam Client update yesterday, some nice fixes in for Linux and Steam Play
18 Apr 2019 at 3:03 pm UTC Likes: 2

What would you like to see improved next in the Steam Client?
I doubt it'll ever happen, but it would nice if Steam could be wrapped with proper window decorations. I use right-click on menu-bar to lower windows (send them to the back) and of course, since Steam uses it's own decorations, that doesn't work. Small issue, but annoying.

As for Steamplay, I'm holding out hope that they'll fix the EAC issues. That would be a bit of a game changer (ha!) for me, as I have a few titles that are basically borked as a result.

Quoting: Raxe88I once was about to buy this game and my inner patient gamer didn't make the call. I'm happy to be able to play now. There's tons of negative reviews about the game being a grindfest and antisolo but I'll try anyways. I hope this fits the itch of a grindy online RPG game.
It is a grindfest and it really is horribly anti-solo. But I enjoyed it for around 30+ hours in the beta phase - the grind is kind of fun to be honest, and you can do much of your early grinding solo. You'll need a team for dungeons though, almost always. And later material collection in red/black zones, again, you'll need a team or guild backing you up.

Not my scene. I had my fun, then archived it forever. Now it's free to play, you should dip your toe, risk free, and make up your own mind!

Quoting: GuestArgh, still needs gnomedesktop as a dependency. As much as I want to try lutris, until that's no longer the case then I simply can't use it. Ah well, still a nice project anyway.
But it's just the library, not the whole desktop, I think? Like a single .so file?
