Quoting: GuestThat used to be my take too. But I'm more nuanced now. In some cases, "no tux no bux" just won't work. In those cases, I'll decide if I'm gonna make an exception. So far, I've made one, for Deep Rock Galactic (any other Windows games I own are through the Humble Monthly). Reckon I might do the same for this one.Quoting: LinasIt's certainly not news that I care about either, but I can understand someone who has the game and transitioned to Linux caring about it. For everyone else though, you should get actual real support when you support a developer, and encourage more Linux support, not less, so definitely don't send these devs a cent until they support us in return.Quoting: liamdaweSure, all of that is true. But there are a lot of games playable in Proton (which is a good thing!), and this one is not special. The game itself or its developers literally have nothing to do with Linux. That it runs on Linux is purely due to external efforts.Quoting: LinasI understand the importance of Steam Play and Proton, but is this really Linux gaming newsworthy? I personally don't think so, but I'd like to hear other options. It is a game, running on Linux. Buying with Steam Play shows the developer a Linux sale.
You say you understand the importance...yet you made this comment?
But that is just like my opinion man. :)

It's on a 50% sale, made a massive splash on launch (for the wrong reasons to be fair) and just had a series of gigantic updates that haven pushed recent reviews on Steam back into the positive side. I'd say that was worth covering.
Personally, I'm just down with the idea of Liam covering what he enjoys playing. As long as that's on Linux, I wanna hear about it.
And if streams it, I usually want to watch. Even better if I can take part and partially ruin said stream... :D

I noticed the sale just yesterday and was thinking of picking it up.
Regarding 'is this newsworthy', I'd like to pitch in a big yes! My Linux gaming has been dominated by a combination of Overwatch and Deep Rock Galactic in the past two or three months. Steamplay is exciting technology and once/if they crack the Easy Anticheat issue, I'll be picking up even more Windows titles, for sure.
So hearing how certain titles run is a nice re-enforcement of ProtonDB, particularly since Liam's rig is vaguely similar to my own.

So, despite the slightly less grandiose vision, I'm actually glad they're delivering on what they originally promised - SS1 with a modern aesthetic/mechanic. It's really hitting home in the nostalgia dept for me and I think that's what they were originally aiming for.

Quoting: ShmerlAm I the only one who didn't mind the direction of their System Shock design that they reversed? I'm not sure what people were complaining about. The one they reversed back to looks a bit more retro-styled, while the previous one that they now discarded, had a fresher look.I agree, but they promised an updated, modernised SS1, and the new direction felt more like either a sequel or a re-imagining/reboot. Honestly latterly it felt like a new game in the same universe...

Love the look of this, but it's just a bit too dark for my taste. Hopefully they have a gamma slider (as I'm sure they will). Really captures the "feel" of the original, at least through my hazy, nostalgic goggles. At the "Enter that room and it will become your grave" part, I felt sure that a host of cyborgs was going to waltz in and attack - I remember a similar room in the original that creepily had you walk past about 30 cyborgs in stasis to get to, then of course Shodan revived them all once you were inside <shiver>.
Really looking forward to this!

I enjoyed it for the few hours I played, but was confused by the whole block/push/hit melee combat. It felt literally like playing rock/scissors/stone and winning was pure luck. There was also a general lack of "big" weapons. I liked the resource collection piece and calling in support drops though. It had a lot going for it.

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Looks like [External Link] it still needs a pirated/cracked version of the exe to work with Proton. No idea if Lutrix/DXVK has some extra magic that bypasses the DRM that prevent Proton from starting.Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoSpace marine works??being working on lutris for about 3 months

In 6 years of using Steam, I've only had one game fail to launch (Little Racers Street). It was incredibly common on Desura - in fact it was a key reason I never really used that platform. I'll be gutted if this becomes a theme on Itch.

Quoting: buckysrevengeYep, just checked - same issue here. Annoyingly, the bug report doesn't let you copy text, so no real details to share. I've sent another bug report, but the first one was ignored, weeks ago, and it still doesn't launch.Quoting: KlaasThe error message I'm getting (just bought it on itch today) is something to do with not finding lime: "Could not load module lime@lime_application_create__prime". I tried running it through the itch app and running directly from the command line (same files, not the separate download). Based off of the bug report section of the dicey discord, there are at least a few other people with the same issue.Quoting: scaineI purchased on Itch, and noticed recently that it wouldn't start on that platform. What is the problem? I haven't noticed anything. Do you use the client?

It has 418, but you have to running 18.04, 18.10, or the 19.04 beta. I'm on 16.04, so I only get 415 drivers - but pretty much a great experience so far. I didn't see anything in 418 that was particularly game changing to be honest.
