Get ready to become an officer in a totalitarian state, as Beholder 2 to have a Linux version at release

I haven't bought a Windows game in 2013 until recently. I bought Doom because it's "officially" supported, and cheap, so it felt like a good way to test the official Proton support.

I also bought the Humble Monthly for Overwatch because I can't see "The Three Bees" (Blizzard, Bethesda, Bioware) ever supporting Linux directly, sadly. The Humble Monthly felt like a good way to get a decent game without supporting the concept of a Windows sale.

Beyond that, I can't imagine buying any titles based on Wine/Proton. I really, really want Nier:Automata, for example, but I won't touch it thanks to its DRM (Denuvo), despite its official status in Proton.

Sounds like someone could be contributing to Wine and fix the Wayland issues that other devs appear to have given up on! :D

And here's me hoping that he was working on this [External Link]. But seriously, delighted for him if this all works out and very excited to see the future of Proton and what it will bring the platform.

This game is one of my PIN candidates (the next PIN is coming soon). It's a great game that I completed multiple times due to the differences in each "species" of ship. Human's have big bulky blocks and rely on heavy thrusters, while other species might be shield-heavy, or offer dense, light materials, but only in odd shapes. Makes for some really distinctive designs during each playthrough. And the combat is really satisfying, once you settle on a control method that suits you (the game offers three different mechanisms to suit your play style).

Great game.

I've been spoiled by Proton and DXVK. I've bought three (3!) Humble Monthlies for me and my two kids, and I'm now level... 14? on Overwatch. And I tested Fallout: New Vegas too - works nearly perfectly, with the odd flash on certain textures.

If only they'd fix that networking bug on Proton, I'd buy Killing Floor 2 and you'd probably never hear from me again. Would love to buy/play Neir:Automata, but I see it's still got Denuvo and I'll support that piece of crap on a cold day in hell.

Looking forward to hearing what Feral say this week!

(Disclaimer: I'm drunk)

I find Purple Library Guy (how'd you come up with that name anyway??) to be depressingly spot on for the most part. Try reading that block of text after five pints. It's a challenge. But it rings true to my slightly addled mind.

I can't believe my whole Star Trek dream is shattered in one post on the internet. Thanks man...

Quoting: TheSyldatEither you get it or you need to watch red state or have somebody doing some piece of art that will make you understand what that sentence ACTUALLY means.
No, I don't get it. I've tried. Your tone make it hard, but I'll continue to try.

All I can do at this point is continue to be civil and supportive. No idea what "red state" is, but I'll maybe look that up. I'm not sure what you meant by having somebody do a piece of art.

Quoting: TheSyldatIn other words "only an abuser or a silent accomplice of an abuser gets mad at being called one"
Well, despite doing my best to defend your position (which I think I have a fair bit of empathy for), we'll never agree on that. Total nonsense. You walk up to any "innocent" person and accuse them of being an abusive aggressor out of the blue and you'll get a justifiably angry reaction.

And If you call people abusers, unproven by their behaviour, simply for being part of a group, you're literally no different from the people abusing YOU for being part of a different (albeit smaller) group.

We won't agree on the responsible part either. If an LGBT+ person commits a crime, does that make all LGBT+ people responsible? Of course not. If angry, hateful CIS/straight white guys commit despicable crimes against your group, I'm not responsible for that either. I'll take responsibility by calling it out when I see it, but that's my choice as a (hopefully) decent human being. I dunno, maybe that's what you meant, but the way you put it was pretty negative/aggressive - like "this is your fault, man up and fix it".

I mean, even if that's what you meant and want... it's not going to happen, is it? Humans don't work like that. Society barely works like that.

Well, I rephrased it for a reason. There's a big, huge, gigantic difference between "being responsible" for the persecution of LGBT+ folks by my ancestors and simply recognising that it happened and that I'm part of the group that caused it.

It's most certainly not the "same difference" at all.

Quoting: tuubiI don't hold every single modern-day Brit responsible for the atrocities committed in the name of the British empire,
But you should and that's where you fail here. Whether you like it or not past deeds of the groups your part of reflect upon you and as such you should acknowledge that sometimmes things are bigger than just your tiny person. So it has nothing to do with ineherited sin and all to do with basic human decency.
I think this is an English language thing, but I don't agree with the statement that we should "hold people responsible" for the sins of their ancestors. For me, it's more about being mindful of those sins, acknowledge that as part of the descendants, we're "part of the abuser group" (whether we are abusers or not) and therefore, do our best not to play into the prejudices of that group.

As I said before, have a bit of introspection and acknowledge that there's some things about you that you just can't change. For me, one way I can do that is to try to ask "how can I help", instead of getting antsy that I'm being lumped into a group for something I can't control. It's hard.
