Canonical have released some statistics from the Ubuntu installer survey
19 Oct 2018 at 4:40 pm UTC

Haha - you can all argue what a core is until you're blue in the face! 180 polled individuals in Liam's little twitter survey think it's a CPU, while around 180 think it's a Core.

Seriously though, who cares??

I wonder if Canonical will ever release overall desktop numbers, rather than just stats collected. I'd just like to know how many Ubuntu desktops exist (that aren't virual/test machines). That would be cool.

Valve just put out another (smaller) Steam Play beta version

Quoting: gustavoyaraujoThere is an annoying issue on PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2019... The game crashes every time it connects to the online server.
Anything related to online play is probably this bug. I'm hoping for it to be fixed so that I can sink several hundred hours into Killing Floor 2, shamelessly ignoring my previous disdain for the way Tripwire treated us loyal penguins.

I'm shallow like that, some times.

Play It Now - PixelJunk Shooter

Well, fabertawe seemed to enjoy it on keyboard and mouse, but I can't vouch for the experience personally. I've only ever played it with a controller. Considering its low price perhaps you could give it a go on Steam and you can refund it if it doesn't work out for you?

Finally, you have a spin attack which you activate by spinning the thumbstick.
Well I never knew that! Probably because I play with keyboard and mouse.

Great game, recommended.
Whaaaa? There's an early level that puts you in a water-suit and you literally can't complete the level unless you spin through the rock. The game gives you huge hints ("Maybe there's another way you can burrow through rock?") if you can't figure it out. How did you get past that??

I can't imagine playing this on the keyboard/mouse to be honest. It's such a nice feel on the controller, and like I say, Q-Games are very focused on the console experience!

Kingdom Rush Origins to release October 18th, Linux support confirmed for release

Hmmm, never consideed myself to be a hard core gamer, but while the Android/IOS versions of this game are nuggets-hard (to encourage micro-transactions), I've always thought the Linux versions to be fair and perfectly balanced. I ran a series of ( admittedly awful) YouTube videos on how to beat each level. Maybe someone will find it useful. I'll link to the series later... on the mobile right now and it's too much hassle.

Can't wait! I love these games - they're the best TD games out there!

The Steam Play whitelist just had a large update including The Witness and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

Quoting: GuestHave you tried Killing Floor 2 yet? Eager to know how that runs since I dual-boot to play that game ALOT, would be great having it run flawlessly on Linux seeing as how Tripwire never gave us that native port they promised.

In-fact I feel Tripwire should work with Valve to help KF2 work good under proton, feel like it's the least they could do after failing to keep their promise of a native linux port
I'm having a go trying Killing Floor 2 on Proton right now. Note that there is every possibility that if it works for me then it won't work for you, and vice versa. Anyone else want a try - It is a 23GB download (tsk).

Okay, well GOOD NEWS. Off the bat, no tweaking, it worked okay on my Debian Buster, Ryzen 5, GTX 1080ti, Nvidia driver 390.87 system. I try to run all my games at 4K resolution (3860x2160) and it was working at that res, but it seemed the frame-rate or responsiveness was a bit off, so I did get fiddling around with command-lines and graphics settings.

<snip>
As someone else noted, it's worth trying the proper driver - Proton requires 396.54 now - that might fix your graphical headaches. Certainly, the game looked and performed brilliantly when I tried it.

But as someone else noted, Perks don't sync in that game for us. This bug [External Link] is the cause and it doesn't sound like a fix is coming any time soon. I bought Killing Floor 2, tested it, confirmed the networking bug and refunded it same day. Looking forward to buying it again one day though. Although, part of me feels like boycotting Tripwire after all their "we will support Linux" bullshit, then silently dropping that support when their single, irreplaceable (apparently) Linux dev left...

Hmm - Spelunky, Castle Crashers and The Witness all stand out for me. But I don't have much time for Johnathan Blow after his various ill-informed/biased comments on Linux. Not interested in supporting that guy, especially not priced at £30.

Might buy the first two though, or at least stick them on a wishlist. They're both around the tenner mark, so might be worth it for a slow-game day.

Descent: Underground is now just Descent and plans to release next year, new trailer up (updated)

Yeah, between Prey, Doom and now Descent, it's all becoming a bit of a mystery what games are being talked about.

I guess we need a Quake revival, just for completeness.
