Smaller game devs/publishers probably wouldn't bat an eyelid generally. Instead of giving 30% to Valve, they're giving it to Microsoft? What's it to them? But the big guns? Imagine the outrage if Battle.net, uPlay, Origin, Steam, Galaxy (ha!) were suddenly outlawed by Microsoft. The fireworks would be spectacular!
Here's to an interesting 2018.

Quoting: TheRiddickNow all we need is Microsoft to force steam games to sign in through their store system, now that would be funny as all hell! (that originally got valve pushing for SteamOS Linux in the first place)Would love to see a big MS misstep like that, especially the look on Tim Sweeney's face (Unreal CEO) after all his ranting and inaction on Linux (at least UE4 has some support).

Love the atmosphere so far. Although, I'm a bit baffled that no-one, anywhere is making fuel, but most of my contract offerings so far are "deliver fuel". If I can't buy it, I certainly can't sell it...

Quoting: kudlatyI usually don't buy Early Access games, but in this case I just had to make an exception. Purchase made.I buckled like a cheap belt and bought it. And yep, I got the same crash when I entered "SC4". It does, however, pretty clearly say "Three letters only". I blame myself for not reading it properly, but this is a (tiny) lack of polish that will need addressed at some point, for sure.
Edit: It seems I already found a bug. When I change the three letter code for the hull identifier from "PLY" to "C64", the game instantly crashes. Other letter/number combinations, e.g. "DS9" or "A99" apparently work, though?

Sure, if you have a quiet period and want to help troubleshoot (such as a beta branch), that's really cool. But your game's development is more important, in my opinion.
Related - do you have issues with Windows XP and Vista (no longer supported by Microsoft), or differences between Windows 7, 8, and 10?

Quoting: StrangerLong version : it's pretty hard to test a game for Linux. Some AMD GPUs work with the AMDPRO driver (which apparently works well with UE4?) while most modern hardware works only with the open-source Radeon driver ; and we found that different distributions didn't provide the same level of dependencies to the driver (namely, different versions of LLVM were apparently shipped with the same driver). We try to offer multiple options to help players find a working setup - the stable release channel is currently playable on AMD but features a lighting issue ; while the beta channel was meant to provide Vulkan support to workaround OpenGL issues, but has new, different issues.I love the die-hard approach, but I do wish you guys would take a more pragmatic approach to supporting Linux. Just aim for Ubuntu as a minimum (or SteamOS of course) and latest stable Nvidia and latest stable Mesa. Once you start extending support (particularly during EA) to multiple platforms, multiple implementations, multiple drivers, it's no wonder devs are sometimes scared of offering Linux support.

I suspect I'll end up buying this soon - another game where I break my "no-Early access" rule. Shame about the AMD situation though, but such a great story from these devs that I'd quite like to support it earlier than later.

Pure speculation on my part though.

Quoting: ShmerlMemory of previous articles suggests to me that their AMD issues are UE4 engine related. Something about the way Mesa worked shaders? So if release is still a long way off, UE4 might resolve these issues as a matter of course. At this moment, we only test on NVIDIA hardware, based on what we currently own. When the game moves to a final release, we'll try to have more testing on AMD hardware ; but hopefully by this point we will have our AMD issues resolved. This sounds a bit confusing. How can they resolve such issues by that time, if they don't test on AMD?
Pure speculation on my part though.

Quoting: scaineThat i like is certain mystery and exploration parts. I like these tranquil silent fields. I like these ancient derelicts.I agree![/quote]Whaaaa? I didn't say that! no_information_here quoted me as Kuromi. But since I agree... it's all good! Also agree with Kuromi on 3079/3089, but those games aren't anywhere near as accessible initially and nor are they as polished. I'll have to try 5089 though as I did eventually really enjoy the first two.

I had to refund this in the end. There just too many bugs and horrible design decisions:
Ultimately though, I think the biggest disappointment is that despite the really nice graphics and FPS dynamic, all you're really doing is walking a pre-set route from one puzzle (which locks you in the room until you solve it) to the next puzzle (which locks you in the room until you solve it). There's no exploration, no interaction with objects unless you're told to. It breaks the feeling of freedom that I usually expect from an first person perspective.
- Interactions are only available after a trigger in the story - so that floor panel you want to open? Nope, not until you're told to look for a floor panel...
- Sometimes those interactions fail to trigger. Restart your game..
- Mediocre voice acting
- You walk like a geriatric. You crawl even slower.
- The torch barely illuminates the 9cm circle it projects.
- In one scene, a jump-scare involving rats, there were no rats.
- In "linux-y" terminal puzzles, you don't "cd", you "sf". This was incredibly annoying. Might just be me. Also, no tab-completion. Also "list" instead of "ls" and "open" instead of "cat". It all added up to complete frustration
- The first 20 minutes of game has you listening to a constant, loud alarm, before you get to turn it off.

Quoting: abelthorneI once had five Atari STs set up in my bedroom, linked by midi cables. Power bars everywhere, TVs jammed together. What a game. And it worked brilliantly! We played it for for hours, knowing that we'd likely never go to such lengths ever again. We were right... Worth it though.Quoting: EikeWolfenstein 3D was there, and known well enough to earn the new releases. But of course, Doom was bigger.Ha! id Software were mere copycats of MIDI Maze (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ooks6QWpmk8 [External Link]) with their unoriginal Wolfenstein 3D! I haven't heard the developers of MIDI Maze whine at the time, though.

Embarrassing that Epic have never released Fortnite for Linux, particularly after Tim Sweeney's childish rant about the Windows 10 store. Words without power. Funnily enough, not a single one of Tim's rants (and there have been a few) have ever even mentioned Linux, despite his company's engine supporting the platform. It's like he's fundamentally unaware of it.
