Eminence: Xander's Tales An MMO/RPG Trading Card Game Coming Soon

You can try CardHunter too, which is browser-based, but better than any other card-based game I've ever played. It's free to play, but there is a slight pay-to-win element, which is unfortunate, but doesn't affect the single-player game, so it's still worth checking out.
Sadly, it requires a version of flash greater than the one currently supported on Linux, so you have to use Chrome, or use one of the tutorials out there to extract pepper-flash from Chrome and apply it to Chromium.

I'll also take this opportunity to point out further controversy regarding Areal. The Verge ran this article [External Link] yesterday regarding Vostok vs West. Apparently GSC is in on it now and none of these studios are backing down. Interesting times ahead for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans, but probably not in a good way, sadly.

Quoting: GuestThanks for the round-up. 3 suggestions:Thanks for the suggestions, but only "We Are Dwarves" is likely to make the cut there - the first one, Sheltered, finishes in a few days, while Sunset is right on the edge, at 15. Might be able to cover it. I'll stick the last one in the WIKI when I get a moment, if you haven't already done so.

Never figured you for a metalhead, McCoy.
[Edit: just hit track 5 - this is... excellent! Real earthy, old school metal. Superb!]
[Edit 2: The Lord Weird Slough Feg have three albums available on Rdio - magic news. That's my next month's listening sorted! Big up, McCoy. Brilliant find, mate!]

Quoting: DrMcCoyNot really Linux- (or electronical gaming in general) related, but this movie project also still needs money: Spinward Traveller [External Link], based on the setting of the science-fiction pen & paper roleplaying game [External Link].That's a pretty sweet sounding band. The guitars remind me of Megadeth, but the style of music has hints of Maiden, or perhaps Rhapsody in some of their ballady riffs. Loving the old school vibe. The production is a bit Man-o-war, but I'm enjoying it so far. Raw.
And moving further along that tangent, there's a great Heavy Metal concept album based on the RPG too: The Lord Weird Slough Feg - Traveller [External Link].
Yeah, I know, off-topic, but I just can't resist; I'm a roleplayer and metalhead at heart as well. :)

Quoting: KelsAny love for Midora [External Link], which is struggling a bit so far? It's got Linux listed right up front.Very zelda-like, or zenonia-like if you want to be a bit more modern. Sadly, with only 12 days to run, this will have completed by our next issue, projected for Monday July 14th...
Killing Floor 2 Shows Off The Infected In A New Trailer

But sure, yeah, wait until it comes out and see how it plays for others. That's valid if you have concerns. But I think too many people are equating "Linux support from day one" with "Ported from Windows from day one". Which is wrong - if it's ported from Windows, you have valid concerns. But it's built for multi-platform from inception, that's a different story.
I won't wait though. I'm too invested in Killing Floor and too excited about this release. It'll be a day one purchase for me - I'll take the risk. I'll be your guinea pig!

Quoting: GuestAs you note yourself, different engine, different team, support from day zero (pardon the pun) - not a port.Quoting: jdubWhat make you think it won't?Quoting: GuestMeh... As stated in the article, the first one is still buggy (textures issues...), so I'm going to stay clear of the second one. What makes you think it will be like the first one

Why do you think he's anti-OpenGL?
28 Jun 2014 at 12:33 pm UTC
Quoting: RadegastWhat I found interesting is that he joined the growing crowd of developers who see no future in OpenGL. I don't think new API would be beneficial to linux gaming at this time with SteamOS coming and more and more game developers announcing their linux support. They might decide to stick with DirectX and wait for the new thing to take hold on linux and OS X.Not quite sure where you got that from. He does mention not to call OpenGL directly, but suggests the best way to do it is through SDL. And given his (and others) condemnation of the documentation, I can see why.
Why do you think he's anti-OpenGL?

Listened to the whole thing this lunch time, then missed out posting it first on Reddit by an hour. I was the 92 viewer at the time. Fame! Er...
He's a decent talker. Great history.
I still wish he'd fix Sanctum 2 though! :D

Trolling Delays Linux Release Of The Stanley Parable
24 Jun 2014 at 7:35 am UTC
1. It's an article, contributed by a third party, not a press release. GamingOnLinux is NOT an outlet for press releases.
2. It's newsworthy because a great game is going to take longer as a result of online harassment.
3. "Annoying" isn't the right word to use in this case. Tripping over a crack in the pavement is annoying. Abusive and sustained online harassment isn't "annoying".
You also seem to be saying that developing games is justification for this level of harassment. Specifically you say, "everyone gets constant unfair attacks". So game devs should just toughen up?
Some might. If it were me though, I'd flick a finger to the harassers, exactly as Gran has done here.

Quoting: MilaniumHow is that newsworthy? Gamers in general are annoying. You know that when you decide to work on games. It does not matter if you are a hobbyist or big business. Everyone gets constant unfair attacks by usually non-technical people who don't understand the limitations and problems. This seems like a poor excuse to cope with critics. Porting games to Linux is not easy and certainly a frustrating work. There are also more valid reasons not to invest unpaid free time in this undertaking. The whole press release is really unprofessional. You're very confused.

It's quite hard to be selective on ignoring people, especially when they email you. Every time someone flames your inbox, it's a depressing reminder that trolls are on your back.
That kind of harassment is pretty despicable. I'm gutted that GranPC is taking this action, as I am mega-excited about his game and I'm Linux only, but honestly, it's only way to properly respond that will get any respect (from trolls). And he remains professionally committed to the port, so there shouldn't be any complaints.
There will be complaints of course, because, as Dr McCoy notes, people are dicks. Not all people. Just... enough people.

Steam Marines Squad Based Procedural Death Labyrinth Finally Lands On Linux
19 Jun 2014 at 7:20 am UTC
Unless you know of development that happened before their Steam launch of course, of have some kind of insider developer knowledge?
Anyway, I'm not sure I'm "happy to know they are nothing alike". Bionic Dues is excellent - I've sunk 20 hours into that game, more than FTL. Hell, more than most AAA games, even from my Windows days - Bioshock Infinite took me just over 12 hours to complete and I had no desire to play it again. Metro Last Light was the same - 10 hours and despite downloading a bit of DLC on sale last month, I still haven't played it again.
Hey, Liam - any update on Halfway? Robotality [External Link] are terrible at keeping their blog up to date - it's been over 3 months without any news.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleReally? That seems a bit of a stretch. Steam puts "Steam Marines" at September 2013 and it's still Early Access. Meanwhile Bionic Dues is one month later, October 2013, full release.Quoting: scaineMore like a Bionic Dues clone. Looks good though. The video has made me want to sink more hours into Bionic Dues right enough...Except this pre-dates Bionic Dues by a long way and you'll be happy to know they are nothing alike.
