It might be an idea to re-state the Unique Question in these reviews, since I'd forgotten what the question was. From the responses, I think it was along the lines of "do you think SteamOS will be a success?". Or Steam Machines specifically? Can't remember.
Dying Light Is Almost Playable On Linux, If You Do Some Tinkering (Updated)

Quick note - I originally struggled with this on Ubuntu 14.04 and even switching desktop to Gnome-Classic or openbox didn't make much of a difference.
However, when I ran it from a SteamOS session, the difference was pretty pleasing. I followed this guide [External Link] and logged into my SteamOS from the Ubuntu login prompt.
My specs aren't too fantastic, but the framerate is generally playable, even outside. I'm about 3 hours into the game so far. Specs are 2010 i7 (dunno the model, sorry, but it's nearly five years old now), GTX670 and 8Gb RAM. No particular tweaks other than running in a SteamOS session. I think I did turn off AA and... was it called occlusion? Something like that. Running at 1920x1024.
I'll see if I can add the FPS counter from the steam client and do a comparison of SteamOS vs Ubuntu vs Openbox. Hopefully it's not all in my head.

Quoting: HadBabitsI don't think I enjoyed it much on console, but if the port's good I'd love to give it another shot. But while we're talking about games that are still coming... [External Link] ;)Wow, lots of Linux activity on Outlast. I'm terrified by these games, but fall for them every time. If that comes out, I'm gonna have to play it. (during the day, with the sound low, one eye closed...)
Dying Light Is Now Confirmed For Linux, Bring It On Techland

In fact, while it doesn't include AUD, the Steam DB page notes that the game is in fact cheaper everywhere outside of the U.S. by a small margin.

Maybe I'm not understanding your reference to the Australian tax. Do you have to pay something extra in addition to the $72AUD base price?
[EDIT, or are you saying the converted price is roughly $72 US dollars?? That would be a crazy mark up though!]

Quoting: linuxslackerat $72 US or $97 US with season pass in Australia i wont be forking out for this. would like to buy it but with the "Australia" tax its just too much(even without its quite a pricy game) hopefully one day game makers wont rip people off for where they live$72 AUD is about £38. It's £39.99 in the Steam store in the UK. Sooooo... not sure where you're coming from there.

Yep, what valczir said - while Dead Island was a hack-n-slash, Dying Light is slightly more of a survival horror. Scavenge for food/supplies during the day, endure the night as best you can. The difference between the zombies throughout the night and day cycle is huge, as are the numbers.
Was looking forward to this one when it was announced back in 2013. Since then, I've ditched Windows and assumed that I'd closed the door on ever buying and playing this. Would LOVE to see it come to Linux.
Instabuy.

The Banner Saga RPG Looks Close To A Linux Version

I'd given up hope on this, especially after learning that it was based on Adobe Air. It was one of my first pledges on Kickstarter and I'd pretty much assumed that my $25 was a waste. So it's nice to see some form of progress, even though I agree with BTRE that both their priorities and their communication have been abysmal.
Banner Saga is a stain on an otherwise pretty pleasing start to my Kickstarter adventures:
And funnily enough, it seems that things took a turn for the worse there too, since I haven't heard anything about Carmageddon either!

I've spent a lot of hours in Borderlands 2 (and TPS), but the game that affected me most was the Talos Principle. Also, gutted that Tales of Maj'Eyal didn't make the shortlist - it annoys me when people reference Dungeons of Dredmor or FTL as the pinnacle of rogue-like (assuming they can spell rogue...) and yet these same people haven't played ToME. It is the standard by which all others should be measured.
Steam Hardware Survey For December 2014

It's always frustrating, this survey. I'd get it every three or four months on Windows, but I've been gaming on Linux solely since the initial release, about two years, and I've seen it once. And I'm on nearly every day, as I was when I played on Windows.
Perhaps they've changed it overall and Windows users don't see it as much either? We'll never get a clear answer however.

Really pleased that they added that analogue thumb stick. Driving games would have been a nightmare without one.
I guess we just need a driving game to launch now! :)
