For shame, Liam!!
I always assumed Simon was part of Canonical. Such a big community around all this, I'm kind of surprised something like this doesn't happen more often. Test, test and test again, I suppose.

As Tuxee notes, Prime Gaming just gives you keys to other stores, mainly, although they do run their own "store". I have 140 games on GOG now, probably 130+ of those are thanks to Prime Gaming.
You're kind of right with some of the other stores though. Epic keys, Prime keys and Microsoft Store keys might be revoked... who knows? Is it likely? Nope. Are you paying for it? Kind of - I mean, you are paying for Prime, but your £9/month is probably for other reasons. I pay it for free delivery on Amazon, although I'm rethinking these days as I'm massively reducing how much I spend there. Other people might be paying for the TV shows, or the music sub. They throw every service at you for that £9/month, so it's not like you lose out particularly by trying more services.
Then there's Luna, but I've not tried that, and it's not part of Prime. I don't like cloud-streaming gaming services.

@Tuubi, no I didn't see that "Properietary (backend)" bit, because I clicked on the "Snap Store" link in the table of contents, and when you do that, you're taken (confusingly) to another box-out that claims it's GPL3. Not a great article, tbh!
As others have said, yes, it seems likely that the store itself is still proprietary software, but as others have said, you can absolutely remove/change/add as many repos as you want to your snapd config, exactly as you can with Flatpak. But no-one will because, like flatpak, it's convenient to just use the store where everything is hosted. For snaps, that's Canonical's (proprietary) server, and for Flatpak, that's (open-source) Flathub.
This "The Register" article from 18 months ago talks about how to set up your own "snap store". Still don't know why you'd do that, but there you go. https://www.theregister.com/2023/11/10/snap_without_ubuntu_tools/ [External Link]
I don't get the attitude to the fact that the store is proprietary. If you use Steam, you trust valve. If you use Github, you trust Microsoft. If you use AUR, you trust... a community of random internet geeks!
And sure, if you run Ubuntu, or try out snaps on another distro, you trust Canonical. But for some reason, this leaves folks pretty outraged.

@Kimyrielle
But should we even care? We use the AUR and trust it. We use Flathub and trust it. But we mustn't use the Snap Store because... why? Proprietary? So is Steam, but here we are on GOL. Hell, GitHub is closed source, which led to Canonical creating Launchpad, which is open source.
And even if the Snap Store IS still proprietary, you can just not use it. Get your Snaps elsewhere. Self-host them. Like you can do with Flathub, but which no-one actually does, because FlatHub is convenient.
Unless something dramatically changed last time I checked, the Snap Store is NOT open source. What bit are you looking at? Snap Store is only mentioned once in that Wikipedia entry, and I can't see any mention of its licence there.
A quick glance at the Wiki page seems to confirm that nothing has changed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snap_(software) [External Link]

A public alpha of the 'semi-immutable' Manjaro Summit Linux is now available

Manjaro seems to fall into that category where people either love it because it works for them, or they hate it, either because it didn't work for them, or for philosophical reasons that tend to stem from the various mistakes the Manjaro team have made over the years.
The vitriol it garners feels like the same hate Canonical garner for... existing? Trying something new? Not being perfect?
I welcome this news, because I'm not sure that Manjaro really has a USP (unique selling point) any more. It used to be "easy access to Arch, with added stability". But of course, the way they tried to provide stability (running two weeks behind Arch) often introduced instability (mainly inside AUR)! And many, many Arch-based options exist now, all with simple to use installers.
Here's hoping they get some mojo back.

I feel like I have to buy this just for the trailer music! And I do love a good deck-builder, so high hopes for this.

What a trailer! The way they seamlessly switch between cartoon and in-game footage is excellent! I'm not a huge fan of the Western setting, but I'll keep this on the backburner. The gunplay looks fun.

This looks really satisfying, and just two days ago, I was tempted by this, but ended up going for Emberward instead, based on the reviews. Definitely also worth checking out. But you know my TD-addiction. I'll probably get Gnomes before long too!

I suspect a lot of these fixes might be for something else, something broader, but are known to affect a specific title, so they include it.

Was keen to try to Atomfall, but not only does it use Denuvo, but it's a Rebellion title, a publisher renowned for never, ever removing Denuvo from their titles. Otherwise, I'd have picked up various Sniper Elite games over the years. I'm also missing out on Strange Brigade, and various 2000AD-related games (I used to read the comics back in the day).
It's a shame they're so short-sighted.
