Valve still waiting on a 'generational leap' for Steam Deck 2 - but it's coming

Quoting: B4nerj3eValve: It's not fair to consumers that we put out a steamdeck every year....
Also Valve: Releases Steamdeck OLED a year after original...
Sure, but that's like a PS-slim edition. It's the same hardware with one aspect slightly improved. They're talking about generational (in chip terms) jumps in performance here.

I find it a bit upsetting that some of the opening comments to this news are negative. It's like someone offering you a free apple pie and turning your nose up and saying you prefer pears. Can we not just celebrate the awesome work CellarDoor and Ethan Lee put into this with a bit of gratitude? That it might help future developers learn, not to mention the modding potential?

Remnant 2 is absolutely superb, and this bundle is a steal for that one game alone. Dome Keeper is also excellent. Not sure about the rest, but they're just a brucie-bonus at this point, especially given how much Remnant 2 usually goes for!

Valve (Steam) begin a direct collaboration with Arch Linux

If we're being optimistic about that secure signing piece targeting better anti-cheat, I'd suggest that Valve are looking to out-perform Windows in that regard, and turn SteamOS into THE trusted way to prevent cheating on any given game. Make it as trusted as a console, or more so if possible.

I played a bit of MW:World and could see its potential, but my group didn't enjoy it, so we didn't progress far. Then Rise, and now this are both encumbered by Denuvo, so I haven't touched them.

I think my best memory was quite recent. I'd just bought Helldivers 2, joined my mates on a co-op game and we had a blast. And then it struck me that I'd bought the game, hit "install" and then "play" and that was it. That was all I did. And this was normal. On Linux.

Just a mad coincidence, I'm sure.

Quoting: EagleDeltaThere are publishers who have removed a game from Steam and also removed it to download. It's rare, but it does happen.
Which one? So far I've only seen removed depots and I haven't checked whether they could be extracted from older manifests.
I only know of one instance of this, when Driver: San Francisco was delisted entirely.
This one and the games EagleDelta mentioned all show up the same in SteamDB. Depots still exist, but give a download size of 0. However, SteamDB still lists all the files with sizes. Only one old manifest from 2014 left though. I do wonder what would happen if you manually downloaded it.
I believe that while you can technically download it, the underlying Ubi services won't work now. It still downloads uPlay, which wants to update to some new version, but when it does, it doesn't recognise the installer.

Internet forums basically suggest illegally (or legally?) emulating the xbox360 version, or downloading a pirated copy that removes uPlay. I last played this back in 2018, and I honestly can't remember how I got it working again.

I feel another playthrough coming on!
