City-building on a massive creature, The Wandering Village - Research & Economy update is live

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI'll have to give it another run through. I remember it being fun, but finding it annoying that sometimes I'd have a thing I wanted the villagers to do, I'd put some on that job, even pull them off other jobs, and nope, they didn't want to do that thing.
But the big critter you're on the back of is just adorable.
That's pretty much my experience of every colony/city builder I've ever played...

The latest free games with Prime Gaming - October 25 edition - lots for Steam Deck / Linux

I have no idea where this weird anger is coming from. I bought Prime for free Amazon deliveries, so, yeah, I was surprised to learn I now had access to a huge library of free games.

Sure, they're not really free in the truest sense, but no need to be so riled. I found the article helpful. Some won't. That's fine.

Cross-platform Nexus Mods app expands Baldur's Gate 3 support plus further UI improvements

This project is incredible - I can't tell you how frustrating it was to mod Skyrim using Windows-only tools. I can't wait for them to support Skyrim, though, as it's one of the very few games I actually care about modding! I suspect that there's a fair bit of unpleasant legacy nonsense they'll have to deal with there though, so I'm not holding my breath!

I guess this is an incentive to play Cyberpunk again though, especially with mods like this out there [External Link]!

Quoting: MakiYou seem very agitated about this for some reason. Might want to take some distance from this.
Sounded like a joke-y riposte to dpanter's over the top suggestion, to me! Tone is so hard on the internet.

Steam games will now need to fully disclose kernel-level anti-cheat on store pages

Quoting: PhiladelphusWhat does "requires manual removal" in the second screenshot mean?
Might be wrong, but I think some of these tools install outside of the game itself, adding themselves to the "add/remove software" tool in Windows, or whatever that's called these days.

So you install the game, it installs the kernel-based rootkit/spyware, you later uninstall the game, but the rootkit/spyware is still there, potentially still running at startup, until you remove it.

We Linux users have it lucky in that regard. We might still install the "rootkit/spyware" element in some cases, but because it's tied to Proton emulating (shut up pedants!) the Windows environment, when we stop the game, we also stop all the anti-cheat crap. In our cases, it only gets to run when the game is running.

Yeah, it's "free if you already have Prime". It's still worth calling out though, because a fair few of my friends had no idea that Prime Gaming was even a thing. I only found out about it myself when I linked my Amazon account to Twitch and all these notifications popped up. It's weird that they don't advertise it more aggressively.

Like Amazon send me a near-weekly email complaining that I have an "used Prime benefit" because I use Spotify and have never signed up for Amazon Music. But I didn't ever get any such reminders about Prime Gaming. Like I say, it's just weird.

Absolutely superb game. If you have a couple of mates to play with, I also recommend the dev's second game, Inkbound, too. I have nearly as many hours in Monster Train as I do Slay the Spire (although they're very different games, of course), but triple the time in Inkbound!

AYANEO tease the AYANEO 3 as a 'revolution' and a 'completely new concept'
24 Oct 2024 at 11:17 am UTC Likes: 12

A 40-second video that can be summed up in four words: "Ayaneo 3, coming soon". Bizarre marketing. Ultimately, it's not going to be running Linux, so I have zero interest in it.

Edit: I've just read the press release. Good lord. Absolute word soup.

They are, apparently, "Teconstructing Imagination" (sic), with a "technological leap", a "completely new concept" and an "evolution in thinking", changing the "way we interact with games", enabling an "unprecedented level of immersion anytime, anywhere". It represents a "reconstruction" of handheld gaming to become your "gaming universe". This will "carry deeper emotions" and remove the "boundaries of gaming devices". Ananeo 3 is apparently a "new starting point", creating a "brand new space for free experience".

Wow.

I don't think I've ever seen such a Nintendo-themed title that isn't actually Nintendo! The music in particular!
