This is the ass-kicking feature I've been waiting for for so long with Proton ... oh god! Do dreams still come true? The launch is scheduled for the end of 2021. Valve could really put a fine Christmas present under the tree! :)

Interesting. I played Red Dead Redemption 2 in multiplayer with the Proton Experimental until the day before yesterday.
Yesterday there was the update for it. Was downloaded directly when I wanted to start the game. After the update, the game quit with an error message in the Rockstar Launcher. After clicking away the error message, the launcher continued to run endlessly without launching the game.
I then set it to version 6.3.4. And with that the game starts again flawlessly. I then played yesterday for a good 3-4 hours without problems.
It is interesting because the changelog under version 6.3.4 says the following:

All changes from Proton 6.3-4.Well. But still really cool that RDR2 can now be started directly from Steam without problems.

a) been able to play with Proton from the beginning (much easier at least). And
b) the native Linux build would probably have come much earlier ... precisely because Steam offers the infrastructure for it (Epic and the others just not).
Therefore, the publisher's decision meant a big disadvantage for Linux players in terms of availability of the game.

Well ... in the meantime it's on Steam. But I was so pissed off at the time that I still notice it today. I didn't buy it when the Windows version was released on Steam (to play it with Proton). And I won't buy it now either. Even though one copy more or less doesn't make a difference. For me it's a matter of principle.
