Seems no hope for Insurgency: Sandstorm on Steam Deck / Linux

I don't think "we need to support it properly" is really valid. We've been playing Proton games for years now without any developer being required to "support" anything. If a game breaks under Proton, the troubleshooting/fixing/supporting happens on the Valve Github forums.

Feels more like developers just going "ew, Linux will give us cooties, avoid, avoid".

SteamOS for the Steam Deck gets slimmed down to 10GB

I suspect the 10GB is not just the OS but also some pre-allocated space for OS images.

Use Wine for gaming on Linux? Try out Bottles
14 Dec 2021 at 2:57 pm UTC

Quoting: EhvisI may have to look into this. But its success is largely dependent on having a bunch of useful pre-built wine versions available for easy install. This is what is most appealing about Lutris, with the added benefit of having the community install scripts available.
This is mentioned in the article, but you can install an assortment of its own "vaniglia" builds, Glorious Eggroll, tkg, lutris, lutris-ge.

Use Wine for gaming on Linux? Try out Bottles

Bottles is great.

Lutris has better community support and installers that do special things like install GoG games with mods already applied, but the UI is like it was made by an army of drunk squirrels. It serves a different purpose than Bottles though, as the article says.

Anyway, +1 for managing wine with Bottles.

Get Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun free during the GOG Winter Sale

Quoting: ElectricPrismI bought a bunch of GOG games a while, and then upon trying to install them in WINE I just wished that they had Steam counter-parts.
Do you install via Lutris? The community install scripts tend to work well for a lot of GoG stuff and you can link it directly to your GoG account.

Valve reportedly developing a Half-Life shooter-strategy hybrid
2 Dec 2021 at 7:05 am UTC

Quoting: omer666This is right, but with the exception of the Savage series. Savage 2 in particular had a great player count and its gameplay is still the best to this day for a hybrid.
I remember Savage, which had a Linux native version in 2003.

Around 2000-2003 was a good time for Linux gaming too. I was still playing Quake 3 Arena and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory natively. Loki unfortunately closed in 2002, but I was playing a lot of Heavy Gear II, Kohan, Rune and Soldier of Fortune at the time. And on the wine gaming fromt, I was playing Warcraft 3 in Linux.

As GOG struggles, Steam hit a new high of 27M people online

Quoting: TeodosioI would be curious to know how many preorders they got for the Steam Deck!
And how many are they planning to ship in Q1 and Q2 2022.
Well, technically 0, since nobody has actually paid any more than the $5 reservation fee and nobody is actually obligated to order once they become available.

Valve puts up official developer FAQ for the Steam Deck

Quoting: mylka"Yes. You'll be able to install external apps"
does AUR work?
that would be great for heroic, rare and minigalaxy
In developer mode yes. Else you have to rely on flatpak. Minigalaxy is on flathub but heroic, lutris not.
