Valve fires back in the lawsuit from Wolfire Games

Have any other devs come forward with similar stories of coercion? Also, why the heck would Valve do this specifically for a fairly insignificant furry-punching game?

I'm not even saying Rosen is lying - he may well have had contact with a particularly crappy Valve rep who had their own fascist interpretation of the rules. I just can't see Valve doing this as official policy in any way.

Linux has finally hit that almost mythical 1% user share on Steam again

Quoting: Dan_igrokI wonder how those results are computed. Are these based on total connected users every day? Are they based on a sample of users? On all users at one particular moment?
A window pops up asking if you'd like to take part in the survey. If you say yes, it collects up some information about your computer and sends it to Valve.
I wager a hefty chunk of Linux users do not allow the survey because "oh no, privacy!"

Quoting: LinasI wonder if they are ever going to officially support Media Foundation? There are so many games that work just fine, except missing video playback.
As I understand, part of what they're doing is some sort of re-encoding on Steam servers into a format Proton can work with. Don't quote me on it, but I'm sure I saw one of the people involved mentioning it. That, and they're telling developers to avoid it.
This is correct. It's a module called media-converter (written in Rust). From the Proton github repo:

This module is a gstreamer plugin which provides the ability to replace media
data encoded in certain formats with media encoded in another format. There
are two main components, `videoconv` for converting video data provided to
Quartz and Media Foundation, and `audioconv` for converting audio data
provided to XAudio2.

The broad idea is to hash the incoming data and replace it with data looked up
from a cache. If there is a cache miss, then the data is recorded to disk and
instead replaced by "blank" media. The conversion should be transparent to the
application (Wine, FAudio) so no changes are required to the application.

Same. Look for "steam-buddy", although that did not install for me.

Been wondering if that app can be used on a different arch-based distro.

Quoting: VoxPelliI wonder if it will get a mode similar to the Steam one for the upcoming Steam Deck.
Sort-of, the dev is looking into a fullscreen mode for launching from Steam as a non-Steam app, and also the ability to add any installed game to Steam as a non_steam app.

I say "looking into" because that's the only thing said so far on the github. :)

They don't typically close issues, even when the issue is fixed, to keep discussion open.

Quoting: bwyanIn regards to FSR support, how does one go about configuring FSR quality levels? Is that even an option in this case?
You can adjust the sharpening level, but that's it. From the release notes:

"The default sharpening of 5 is enough without needing modification, but can be changed with WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=# (0-5) if wanted."

I know the IGN editor for our regional edition of the site and asked him to pass the corrections on to the US editorial staff. Maybe they will fix things.

Feral no longer porting A Total War Saga: TROY to Linux, citing less demand since Proton
27 Jul 2021 at 3:55 pm UTC Likes: 3

When they say there's less demand for native titles, that really just means there's bigger choice overall for people who game on Linux. Previously they were a niche player in a tiny market. Now the tiny market is not just limited to the niche any more. They'll be ok though, there's still mobile.
