Ubisoft are keeping an eye on the Steam Deck, will release on it if it's big enough

This is as I expected. Steam Deck is viewed as an entirely separate "platform" by the suits. If viewed like this, then I also suspect it will be bigger than both Stadia and most definitely bigger than the Epic store.

While it is weird to view a different form factor PC as a new platform, it does have some advantages. Most PC games will not have user interfaces that are optimised for small screens. UI/font scaling will be tiny on a lot of them. So if viewed as a platform, developers may actually add some UI tweaks to make it more comfortable to use.

The other thing is that publishers may have to skip over their crappy launchers to make the Big Screen Mode user experience better and more seamless.

Loosely related question. Does anyone know if there is a way to add a non-Steam game to Steam purely from the command line?

Quoting: GuestNothing shown was particularly impressive to me either. Portal2 isn't really the most power hungry of games, but it does explain why they put a Vulkan backend of sorts (adapted DXVK) into it: would make a massive difference on a handheld
There are videos showing Doom Eternal and Control running on it too. You forget that it's a 1280x800 display, so would require less power than a 1080p display, for example.

For these "Steam on (device)" things I hope they have some sort of certification thing going so that people using Steam on these devices can easily tell which games work.

Quoting: AvikarrI have never got into the "X" series. I like these kind of complicated games, so I think it will be great for me. Can someone recommend, where should I start first with this game? X3: Reunion, X3:Terran Conflict, X3:Albion Prelude, or X3:Farnham's Legacy?
If you are into the story stuff, then I'd say play all of them. But if, like me, you don't really care about that stuff and just want to build a mighty space empire, then I'd say Albion Prelude is a good place to jump in.

Can't wait to see what games are developed using this that run natively on every platform except Linux.

While it's nice of them to make this stuff open source, it's probably not tech that anyone should be using, since it's hardware specific and serves as a vector to lock-in.

Quoting: ArehandoroThe idea of the game is great, though. Simpler than buying tons of figurines :D
I presume the idea is for it to not just be limited to a single game though. For example, I would love to play Neverball on this.
