NVIDIA to launch DLSS support for Proton on Linux tomorrow (June 22)

Discussions about foss etc aside, this represents an interesting view into how things have changed.

Most hardware manufacturers don't even seem to know that Linux exists as a platform, and here's a major GPU maker not only supporting their features at a driver level, but actually contributing code to wine/proton to support the feature there.

Wine has been around for a long time, but it was not taken quite as seriously as nowadays.

The modern Plasma System Monitor replaces the old KSysguard
What are they drinking??? This is a completely backwards decision. KSysGuard is the only answer Linux has to TaskManager. Plasma System Monitor is on the same level of usefulness as gnome-system-monitor - better than nothing but insufficient for power users.
Relax, it has all the same features.

Still a lot of work to do before Valve's new hardware launches though. And while a lot of the focus is on getting working support for features like MediaFoundation, DLSS, AntiCheat etc. there's a lot of work on per game compatibility type stuff that's missing.

For example, Mass Effect Legendary Edition works with fixes applied to the latest Glorious Eggroll release, but official Proton still does not have these. There are also other examples.

The developer program mentioned might be some kind of incentive for developers to specifically optimize for/support this device. This would be generally good for us.

As for the price of the device. They'd have to sell it for close to cost or at a loss to compete with the Switch.

Could this be where Gamescope comes into play?

Let's wait and see, Newell hinted to something, by the end of the year... It felt like it was linked to VR, but maybe it's wider than that?
Yeah, i really think this must have a relation with Nvidia arm gaming notebooks. Lets home it brings DLSS to Linux !
As mentioned above, DLSS is supported in Linux. I think what you really are asking is if it can be supported in games. For native games I guess there just needs to be games that implement it. For Proton, it will not be supporting DLSS as it's vendor specific. Once a nice open standard becomes available I'm sure they will map DLSS to use that instead, like they did with RTX->DXR

For anyone who not only cares about good game writing but also enjoys reading about good game writing (and writing in general)
Pfff, opinions. ME2 is the best of the three by a huge margin. Primarily due to the fact that it actually does a better job of establishing reasons to care about individual characters rather than just the clinical plot stuff.
That's the whole problem of ME2, though. In a mission of such scale that the whole universe is in peril, caring for individual characters, is a bit ridiculous. And going from a half-science/half-space-magic based story to a drama based story, with stupidity reaching new level with the

creation of the humanoid reaper.

I'll continue in spoiler in case someone has not played it yet.

Spoiler, click me
The reapers have been wiping civilizations for eons and it doesn't occur to them that creating a biped reaper with opposable thumbs is better that the squid form until they meet the humans.

Or the fact the humans have been out of their home planet for mere 200 years, and they go from being looked from above, being patronized, etc to be in charge of everything. Where does the last battle happen? In earth.

The propaganda of humans > aliens just because and the deidity of a single character than can be resurrected from death (almost like Jesus) and command the whole galaxy against a huge threat is what destroyed ME2 and 3.

That only at the story level. Killing the mako, cutting exploration, adding bullets to the weapons and adding a bit more of bum and tits here and there deepened the above mentioned fails.
Basically all of what you said boils down to: things you don't like vs things you like vs. things other people like vs. things other people don't like.

There's no objectively good or bad here. We don't all want the same things from games/stories. If you don't like the thing, maybe the thing just is not for you and you can move on.
