Looks like Beyond a Steel Sky, the sequel to the classic Beneath a Steel Sky is coming to Linux

Quoting: EikeShould I (liking point and click adventures in general) play "Beneath a Steel Sky"?
Well, it's free. :) I hated the voice acting, but the game is great. The first time I played was the Amiga version which had no voice acting. Then later tried it voiced and just noped out of there fast.

If you can't login to World of Warcraft or WoW Classic on Linux, here's a quick fix for now

Quoting: GuestIt's about bloody time they officially supported us, unless their hands are tied?
I'm going to take a wild guess here. Being owned by a publicly traded company, "Linux" is still a dirty word that will make their stock prices go down. Every time they say the word, they have to counteract it by saying stock value increasing buzz-phrases like "blockchain" or "VR" or "AI" or "Stadia".

I mean for real, it matters less how much product they will be selling or how many paying customers they have than what will affect their stock prices.

A little look over ProtonDB reports for Steam Play in August 2019

I'm assuming Warframe's Gold is because you need to use

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command%

to make sure the sound works well. Other than that it runs really well and looks great. It's a fantastic game to try out, since it's free-to-play, and generally not disgusting with monetisation.

Quoting: GuestSeriously, how dumb do you think we are to fall for this?
Quite a bit.

Quoting: LonsforThey targeted gamers.

Gamers.

We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.

We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun.

We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.

Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded.

Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?

These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.

Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.
This is the most braindead thing I have read all week, thank you for the laugh.

But anyway, "gamers" is just people who play games. You're not some special anything. Games make you feel empowered and every game revolves around you, which is probably why you think real life works like this. It does not.

Nobody's calling gamers sexist, racist, etc. People call racists racist. They call sexists sexist. That's it.

And this is important: NOBODY IS TRYING TO TAKE AWAY YOUR VIDEO GAMES*

*except Donald Trump and friends, but that's another discussion.

That was not the transphobic stuff, it was things like implying that trans people are insane.

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoI played the DEMO and I didn't see anything controversial in the game...
SJWs can find controversy in a brick wall.
People who use "SJW" as a pejorative are the worst types of people. We need less of these in the world.

It is correct to be upset about bigots doing and saying bigoted things and about such things making it into the game. Changing it and apologizing is the correct move. It's not "censorship", it's the right thing to do.

That aside, the game is really good and gets a double thumbs up from me.

Steam Play passes six thousand Windows games playable on Linux, according to ProtonDB

Funny thing about Gold or higher, we've been playing Final Fantasy XIV, which is rated Silver. Silver means it doesn't 100% work, but in this case the only thing that doesn't work is the opening cinematic, which is viewable on the official YouTube channel [External Link]. Once you do the necessary edit to make it skip the cinematic, everything else works great.

Re that video. It uses Widevine [External Link], which I'm pretty sure can possibly be made to work with Wine.

(Also, very silly to use a DRM format on a video file that you're going to upload to your official YouTube channel anyway)

For those worried that Proton might kill Linux gaming? I have one for you... My partner just switched to Linux 100%, even though she can't run Photoshop anymore. We're currently playing Final Fantasy XIV together. That's the real value of Proton right there.
