According to netmarketshare Linux hit 6.91% market share last month, higher than Mac

Quoting: GuestA doubling in one month seems highly unlikely! Unless China suddenly made Linux mandatory, or something :p.
Maybe not China... but possibly USSR...

Recently, the US government told everyone not to use Kaspersky anti-virus [External Link] because of Russian backdoors.

Maybe Russia is doing the same... after all rumors of Microsoft installing NSA backdoors in their products have been around since well before the turn of the century.

I would expect this to be happening even if there was no formal announcement. Pretty much anywhere that they do not trust the US. (which would even include US allies that want to keep secrets from the US/NSA.)

I would expect North Korea to do this, but it has been ongoing for years... they even have their own disto, Red Star OS [External Link].

While this could be happening, I still don't think that it would explain a huge spike... it takes a long time for large corporate and government agencies to roll out new software installations, and OS changes require the most time.

They have already revised the numbers downward.

From: W/86.3% M/6.78% L/6.71%
To: W/88.65% M/6.41% L/4.94%

Still a nice gain, but the QA note is still there meaning they may revise it again.

Edit: too slow on the writing... beaten to message by 5 min.

What it really means...

Our corporate masters will not let us show that any operating system that can be used for free without spying on the owner can be viable. We need to adjust our algorithms to show that Linux is a fringe OS only used by stoned hippie radical freaks.

Atari are launching a new gaming system, the 'Ataribox' and it runs Linux

D'oh!!! Posted to the wrong thread... should have been in the SPAZ 2 announcment...

I saw that thread announcing this as well. The first comment of the thread was:
Blorf [developer] May 1, 2014 @ 12:17pm
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, then yup. Making a Linux build "should" be a matter of us clicking the Linux build option and pressing build. Unity is very handy for that whole nasty porting business :)
Good thing he uses a smiley...

One other important note from the Developer:

Important Note: SPAZ 2 is not a direct sequel to SPAZ 1. It is a new game with brand new gameplay mechanics but is set in the same universe with the same cast. SPAZ 2 is themed around scavenging and survival and the mechanics reflect that. Those looking for a direct SPAZ 1 sequel will not find it here. Those looking to try something new, certainly will find that. :)
That being said, I'll probably get it with my next splurge of game buying. I thought the first one was quite enjoyable... while he says this one is different and the trailer is true to that thought, I'm interested enough to check it out.

There's now a Linux build of Unity 2017.3, with a new installer

Quoting: harshbarjmost of my programming experience was in the dos days on quickbasic 4.5.
qBasic??? and 4.5 as well... you damn youngins...

Back in my day you had to run Ibm's Basica or GWBasic. Then again even that was after I started with basic on the Commodore Pet, Vic-20, c-64, then Apple ][. (and yes, in that order too...)

So old that Lord British was barely a squire. (not quite)

Quoting: pbWell they have some games they could port...
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?publisher=Atari [External Link]
And these classics running on the box will probably be Atari Vault, no? But the machine will need to have some big titles, maybe even exclusives, to take off.
Atari Vault??? Wow!!! how did I ever miss this one before. (adds to wishlist)

As a child in the time of the 2600, this brings back memories, ahh sweet nostalgia...

Of course looking at the list of 100 games it includes... Many of them are full fledged stinkers that even the euphoria of nostalgia can't get over the stench.

As one comment on steam mentions... no Frogger, Dig Dug, Space Invaders, Qbert, Pac Man... Bummer. But it does have Centipede and Millipede, Asteroids, Missile Command and Tempest. And as normal with most of the old arcade cabinet and 2600 games... the Arcade version is better.

Sadly, my favorite, Gauntlet, is MIA from the list. Time to look for my old MAME rom backups :)

I'd rather play HuniePop.

The Humble Store is having a huge sale right now, some seriously good Linux deals on

Quoting: HamishI bought a game thinking it was a linux game from a stack I had in the cart. They refunded right away, though.
Actually when I bought Project Highrise the other day (which the devs are very clear there is zero support despite releasing a linux build on steam) Humble Bundle clearly stated in my cart that it was not a linux game. I had never saw this before, but I like it. It also happened on a free title they had the other day (Oddworld, I believe).

I'm not sure when they started this notification but I did like it. I do not use windows at all so I am not sure whether or not they pick up the Operating System from my browser id string or if they associate my account with linux after selecting that many times when purchasing/downloading bundles. (I assume they use the browser id string because that woud work for first time buyers as well.)

There's so many Linux games on sale right now, it's a good time if you're skint

For the record, The Humble Bundle sale has been extended to September 25th. With the "End of Summer Sale Encore."

I did grab Project Highrise and the DLC. Thanks to everyone who replied in the previous thread. Project Highrise is cheap in the current sale, but does not official support linux. I did have the restarting bug, but renaming and using the 32-bit binary instead of the 64 bit one worked like a charm and I have not had any other problems.
