This is completely besides the point; just because it's impossible to do something 100% doesn't mean it's foolish to even try.

It's impossible to live completely vegan, without profiting from any exploitation of animals. The majority of people would say vegan alternatives pale in comparison to "the real thing". Yet you'll find people living as vegan as possible, and while I'm not one of them (I'm a happy omnivore, so not even a vegetarian), I still find it laudable in principle.

Likewise, it's not possible living in our societies without contributing to global warming and the general wasteful exploitation of resources, third-world countries and people. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try to keep your carbon footprint low; that doesn't mean projects like the Fair Mouse [External Link] are stupid.

Yeah, you're conflating free as in free beer and free as in speech (aka "libre") here.

The game code will still remain FLOSS (free/libre open source software). Whether or not you pay for the game data is something else entirely. In either case, kudos to them for opening the game; too few do that, IMHO.

That said, this is the first time I've heard of the "Give it Your Own License, License". Very weird license, and very weird to choose such a license. I'd have chosen either GPL, BSD or CC0, depending on the level of permissiveness I thought necessary (for a whole game thing, probably GPL), but that's maybe just me.

They helped us cast great actors true to the spirit of the original cast. The voices have already been recorded and Jane’s very happy with the results. We’ll reveal more details about the cast as the mid-2014 release approaches.

It's "great" that the website doesn't say anything about Linux. And that Jane Jansen didn't answer my tweet about Linux support two weeks ago.

- Kinda sad that we lose Tim Curry, Michael Dorn and Mark Hamill as voice actors
- Also, I'll miss the awesome AdLib track. Always had a sweet spot for the YM39812/YMF262 in my heart
- The remastered title track sounds...wrong somehow

On my system, the game start-up is the following:

I have two monitors, each with their own X screen (*), so of course I have Xinerama disabled.

(*) One of the reasons being games trying to be smart and doing insane stuff like stretching over both monitors, not letting me switch to my second monitor mid-game to talk on IRC, not wanting to run on the second monitor, or even switching off the second monitor.

Side-note: When did it become normal to have a separate launcher to change config options? I miss being able to load games, press ESC and just go to the options menu
Actually, I wish more game would do that. Or rather, provide a representative sample scene and let you configure the graphics options with that. Because I hate having to restart the intro several times to tweak the graphics until the scene works as fluently (for my weird tastes) while looking as best as possible. Bonus hate points when the game doesn't actually let me access the menu and/or quit while showing the intro.
