Is SOMA an abbreviation for something? Because it rings to me, if not, of Brave New World.

Quoting: Quote from s_dTo me, a developer's choice to exclusively develop for SteamOS is only slightly worse than developing for Linux exclusively on Steam (i.e., no direct purchases, Desura, or other DRM-free store). Either way, it's tied to Steam, which has so far offered little that I'm interested in, personally.Yes, and again I agree.

Quoting: Quote from AnonymousI dont think that seems to be a problem at the moment, most Linux systems have some minor differences but have allot of common packages. So far id say every distro can run steam and most games with little to no tinkering involved. In nature Linux is the kernel(and ofc gnu) and you decide what you want to stick on top of it(looking at you arch :)) but at the end of the day there has to be some common thread since theres countless way of doing things, and some distros will probably have to adapt if so that will hardly be the end of the road.Yes, and I agree with that, which is why there is concern over Mir in this thread, as it breaks that common thread.

Quoting: Quote from Anonymousif some games will work in SteamOS and not in other distros, what is the problem? SteamOS will be free, so we can continue with our preferred distro (Ubuntu, Arch, Gentoo, etc...) and install it tooAnd here I was thinking the reason why people were celebrating was because they no longer felt compelled to dual boot...

Quoting: Quote from liamdaweI will cover Salvation Prophecy once I'm not forced to tether my phone to my PC to get the net.I still have it sitting sadly in my Desura cart, but extra farm expenses have made me a bit more guarded with my money for the moment, after already clearing several items out from it. I suppose I will get to it eventually... :|

Really glad to see bots being added, as that was the major barrier keeping me from playing Tremulous back in the day. Unvanquished really is beginning to look promising, although they should get on Desura. It might just be something to add to our LAN party routine. :)

Quoting: Quote from HadBabitsYou dick; I was really hoping for XCOM :( Slow news day or not, that was just mean.Hardly, what Phoronix is doing by not clarifying the issue is just mean. I think Liam mostly did this to counter the wave of websites getting peoples hopes up.

So I would say it is Steam's fault for not having him, and not Troy's fault for not getting on Steam.

Quoting: Quote from philip550cI know that drm haters wont agree but I think a major reason for lack of sales is not being on steam. I would love to see dirk dashing in my steam linux games list. While I do not want to sidetrack this thread from being about people giving Troy the best wishes he deserves, I do have to respond to this, as the whole Greenlight campaign for Dirk Dashing 2 was one of the greatest indictments of Steam from a developers perspective I have seen in a long time (although what happened with Paranautical Activity is also up there). The amount of trolls that campaign got was disgraceful, and I would wager that it did not do Troy's health any favours.
So I would say it is Steam's fault for not having him, and not Troy's fault for not getting on Steam.
