Quoting: TheBardDoes anyone heard about an automated Desura backup tool?
I have heard these get mentioned, but I have no idea how well they work:

Quoting: alexgolI don't think Linux has anything to do with it. Both stores are multiplatform.
I was not meaning to imply that GOG.com coming onto Linux led to the bankruptcy, but rather state that it did seriously undermine its position among Linux users. I have reworded the sentence to make that clearer.

New Linux Gaming Survey For June
1 Jun 2015 at 11:36 pm UTC

I had to say yes to the console question, but only because of the Sega Genesis we got at a thrift store in 2008. To be fair though, it has seen some use over the past few months.

All of my Linux purchases in May were GOG.com DOSBox wrappers. :|

Quoting: HamishWhile it obviously sucks for those who are suffering from this, I must admit to getting a certain amount of schadenfreude from this. Maybe even a little vindication. ;)
Wow, I wasn't aware that the German word schadenfreude is also common in the US. :)
I thought Hamish was Canadian? As for as the German saying, outside of the Pennsylvania-Dutch communities and their surroundings I don't hear words like this. Granted, Hamish is an intellectual and some of his circles may indeed use such terminology but here in N.Y. I'm stuck trying to teach people it's just "regardless" and other simple things... Yeah not really what I would call common.
Yeah, I am Canadian. As for using schadenfreude, like Xzyl said it is not that common, but it does come up on occasion:

As for myself, I picked it up from my mother. No, she is not German. Just well read.

Quoting: melkemindMaybe GamingOnLinux could compile a list of trusted porters with good track records and make sure game companies are aware of reliable options. I doubt any developer wants the negative attention that comes with a port that is no longer supported.
A porting resource for developers could be good.

Quoting: FutureSutureLinux gamers who have an AMD graphics card and are running the open source driver can literally run this game better than me.

SOMA, The New Horror From Frictional Games Due In September Day-1 For Linux, New Trailer Too

OH MY GOD, HE CAN ACTUALLY TALK! WITH PEOPLE!
https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/the-dark-descent-of-frictional-games-part-two.4519

The first trailer did not actually impress me all that much, but it is nice to see that Frictional is at least doing some things new going by this one, and of course I am going to be buying it.

Duke Nukem 1 & 2; I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream; Incredipede Now On GOG For Linux
29 May 2015 at 4:37 pm UTC

For those who only know Duke Nukem from the FPS games, do not let that put you off, because these are still some of the nicest action platformer games ever made. Even the original despite having only PC speakers sounds still plays surprisingly solid, and the second might just have the best music tracks of the era.

Desura Are In A Bit Of Trouble With Not Paying Developers
23 May 2015 at 2:46 am UTC

Quoting: muntdefemsI used to be a Desura champion, and I really wished it to become a real alternative to Steam, but my enthusiasm has totally waned by now. Nothing has changed in the 2.5 years I've been using it, even after changing hands twice. A non-working Linux client, and fewer quality games being released there (and those who do, usually during early development, are totally neglected by the devs once they get into Steam) is nothing to be excited about, that's for sure.
Unfortunately I do have to agree with all of this. Which is sad.
