Quoting: 14Thanks for tracking the release and issues. This is on my wish list and saw that it released today; was hoping there would be some info here on how it ran. I will wait for the game to work!
This echoes my sentiments exactly. Thanks, Liam!

Lutris 0.4.20 is now out, to help you manage all your games plus some Overwatch testing

I took a quick look at Lutris just now; some quick comments:

a) I thought "Import Games" was busted. I saw on the console that it found games when clicking on the Sync buttons, but nothing showed up in the UI. Apparently you have to restart the app?

b) For Steam, it seems to only find games in the default library. On my system, that just so happens to have the least amount of games in it (because it has the most amount of free space!).

No time to try much more right now, but thanks Liam for the hints about Overwatch - I got the current bundle when they added Dungeons 3 and Hidden Folks. Didn't care about Overwatch otherwise, but if it works nicely with DXVK, might have to check it out sometime. ;)

Valve have now pushed out all the recent beta changes in Steam Play's Proton to everyone

Quoting: sillyRegarding icon for SteamPlay they have already hinted about it in the steam knowledge base:

Basically a Steam Play icon.
That's ancient (and obsolete) documentation - back when Steam Play simply meant that you could pay once and play the game on more than one operating system.

Quoting: HoriI know I could enable it for other unsupported games as well, but the problem is it will enable ALL games, making a mess out of my library.
I think it would work much better if non-whitelisted games:

a) continue to be filtered out in the "STEAMOS + LINUX" view

b) show in the "GAMES" view as they do now, but instead of showing the "invalid platform" dialog for Install/Play, it prompts if you want to try it with the (unsupported) Steam Play option.

Forsaken Remastered adds Vulkan support to the Linux version

Quoting: PublicNuisanceIf they can add Vulkan to this old game
As I understand it, they completely replaced the engine for this game and the two Turok games (they may not even have the old source code?). So they didn't add Vulkan to the old game, they added Vulkan to their new engine that was made compatible with the data from these old games (similar to how ScummVM runs old games on new operating systems).

LOL at the FAQ going on and on about how it's not a Mortal Kombat clone! But it looks quite entertaining and has cheap early bird tiers available, so why not.

Game store itch releases a brand new client, plus a small interview
13 Sep 2018 at 12:56 am UTC

Quoting: FurorI had to reinstall all the itch.io games and apps again, as the new version didn't recognize the previous installed ones.
It didn't show my installed games the first time I ran it, but fiddling with the settings and/or restarting fixed it (at first I thought I had to move the content, but then I noticed they were in the same path it said it was looking?!).

Quoting: FurorAt least now I have an icon in the system tray.
As mentioned, the prior version had one also?

Quoting: GustyGhosthmm my itch client is "Up to date" but it still looks the same as before. Did it not reach their bintray repo yet?
I was wondering the same thing... you have to uninstall the previous version, and download/install the latest version. I guess it changed too much to update from pre-25 to 25+.

An interview with the developer of DXVK, part of what makes Valve's Steam Play tick
12 Sep 2018 at 6:20 am UTC

Quoting: jensEventually you'll also need to spoof an AMD card for DXVK If you are on NVidia.
I saw this referenced for something else (GTA 5?); got any background info on why this is necessary / why it works? Is it so that it doesn't try to run some Nvidia-specific code, like GameWorks/HairWorks/PhysX/<lockin-of-the-month>?

Quoting: LeopardDX11... covers Windows 7 , 8 too.
I think we'll continue to see Microsoft attempting to force everyone onto Windows 10. They have already been actively working to ensure that older Windows will fail on newer hardware.
https://www.techrepublic.com/article/microsoft-to-end-support-for-windows-7-and-8-on-new-pc-hardware/ [External Link]

Windows 7 has been out of "mainstream support" since January 2015, and will be completely dropped in January 2020. Windows 8.1 is also in "extended support", and is good for 3 years after that, but seriously - that's like running Windows Me or Windows Vista (if you're going to run a crappy OS, why stick with one of the crappiest versions of it?).
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet [External Link]

Will Windows 7 get killed off as effectively as Windows XP? I guess it depends on how many glaring security holes are left unpatched. Once the browser vendors (Google/Mozilla) stopped delivering browser updates for XP, it was pretty much game over. Google Chrome relies on the operating system for security, so it was DOA; Mozilla browsers handle it in their own code, so they could have kept XP support going if they chose, but ever since the "we only care about Firefox" guys took over, they are happy to kill off anything that isn't new and shiny.

Back to Linux gaming - I hope that developers continue to realize that Vulkan is a much better bet than DX12, but some of them are much smarter than others. :-p
