Canonical planning an immutable desktop version of Ubuntu

Quoting: spayder26Friendly reminder that Snap is not free software due vendor lock-in (its sole package repository is proprietary).

So whatever Canonical decides to do with their base Snap OS is pretty irrelevant for the general linux ecosystem.
Total BS! If that was the truth, you would not be able to download and install Snaps outside of Snap Store, and Rudra (a teenage boy) would not be able to create an alternative store.

Steam will now scale better with KDE and GNOME

Quoting: MrokiiI don't see any scaling, and I am on the latest beta. The font is just as small as it ever was, it's an abomination in 2023. Valves' "efforts" to make it usable on 4k-screens are just laughable.

I'm on Kubuntu 23.04, btw, with an AMD graphics card and its drivers.
Just force it yourself! I did, and and now I can finally see everything clearly on my 14" full HD laptop display!
How? I was able to in the past, but nowadays it seems theming isn't even possible anymore, and manually editing Steams' own html (or css?)-files doesn't work either as it seems, Steam is always re-downloading the original version, replacing the edited one.
Quit Steam completely, and run it from terminal:
steam -forcedesktopscaling 1.25
(You can replace 1.25 with your preferred value)

Wayland driver for Wine is getting closer

I wonder how will fractional scaling work with wine apps once wayland driver becomes available. Like is it going to be scaled and crisp like Qt and GTK apps?

The Steam Deck really doesn't need exclusives
28 Dec 2022 at 1:07 pm UTC Likes: 2

I think it indeed doesn't need any exclusives because its main purpose is to promote Steam and not the device itself. And as you know you can use Steam on Linux, Mac, and Windows so there is really no point for exclusives at all.

Portal with RTX released free on Steam

So far, so good. But I can not get fsr and dlss to work at the same time, whenever I change in game resolution it starts to have some weird scaling issues. Also, I can't access steam overlay. The overall performance is good, mostly 50-60fps, but stupid elevator is at 30fps.

important info: To access DLSS and RTX settings, you need to press alt + x

Portal with RTX releases on December 8th

Looking at these system requirements, I'm wondering if I'll enable DLSS and also fsr hack, would that even be possible? Would I be able achieve 60fps?

Half-Life 2, Portal, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2 all get upgraded with DXVK 2.0 Vulkan

That's cool and all, but... Where is Portal RTX??? It is already THE END of November!
And also do you think people with RTX cards would be able to play it on Linux?

UNCHARTED is great on Steam Deck! Here's how to fix it on Linux desktop

Quoting: Liam DaweNo, it's unhiding it and allowing the special NVIDIA API to work. It's only for this game, you're not setting a launch option for the whole of Steam, that's not how launch options work.
Um, PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 == PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=false, so by default it is PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=true, that's why we need to specify to not hide it in the first place. I know how Steam game launch options work, lol. I was wondering if Nvidia gpu is hidden for this specific game or is it default behavior, and turns out it is default behavior.
Anyway, CatKiller answered my question.
