Modrinth announce their Minecraft launcher is now in Beta
8 Aug 2023 at 6:26 am UTC

Quoting: StalePopcornReason, I've got to login to my micro crap account every time I launch the damned thing and am wondering if it's a permissions issue
Haven't tried modrith yet (but surely will, when the next round of Minecraft is on), but at least for other Launchers in Flatpak i never experienced that. Might still be the case of course.

Besides that, are you sure you are using the Modrinth launcher? I can only find jdMrpackInstaller on flathub when searching for it?

Every bit of progress is good, but as long as they force this abomination of a 3rd party launcher down my throat, they can go rot in hell...

Tencent to get a majority stake in Dying Light dev Techland
26 Jul 2023 at 8:24 am UTC

Quoting: Guesthow exactly is Tencent "shady"? They are one of the most hands off publishers on the market. If anything, thats a boon for techland
The fact that they interfere so little is part of the 'shady' bit, even if it seems like a better approach than what EA and others are doing. But if a company (seemingly) only throws money somewhere without any obvious motivation and action behind it, one starts to wonder what those motivations might be. Best case: they are the only company that is fine with a positive ROI instead of being greedy and striving to squeeze out every last bit of (im)possible growth. But it's hard to believe such a company exists...

I get the need for publishers/investors. But i won't pretend it is a good idea to consolidate the whole market into two or three big players. And that is not even considering the shady nature of Tencent. So...thumbs down from me...

ΔV: Rings of Saturn is a game for real space nerds - out now
22 Jul 2023 at 9:10 am UTC

This should be exactly the game for me. But unfortunately the demo never really clicked for me - i like the flight model and the atmosphere, but the rest didn't get me. One of these days i'll maybe find the time to try and watch some tutorial video ^^

But the accessibility really isn't it's strong point ;)

Nevertheless, congratulations to 1.0, thanks for supporting Linux and respect for keeping at it! :D

The Wandering Village gets a big Ocean Update and you can win a key

I really liked the demo and plan on grabbing it some day (i try to limit my purchases to games i immediately plan to play and rather strip down my pile of shame ^^) - but of course i wouldn't object winning a key :)

System76 reveal the 'Nebula' a new PC case for everyone
29 Jun 2023 at 4:28 pm UTC

I like the design, but even though i'm not one to cheap out on the case, 329$ really is too steep. Maybe i'm missing some key feature that would justify it, but comparing it for example to the new BeQuiet 901 for around the same price (that i already find a bit overpriced) doesn't leave many points in favor of the nebula.
I'm also not too sure about the whole airflow thing and if the side grills have filters and so on...
