Factorio is about to increase in price so be quick

If that's a game for you, then even the new price is worth the playtime you will probably get out of it tbh ^^

Valve marks some EA games Playable on Steam Deck again like Sims 4, Jedi: Fallen Order
23 January 2023 at 6:51 pm UTC

I managed to damage the EA app for fallen order beyond repair (lest re-creating the prefix) - man did that improve the UX!
Unfortunately, that also prevented achievements and cloudsave to function, but i guess that's the lesser evil.

But after giving the Origin/the new App another chance for 5 bucks, this surely was the last time i gave them money as long as they insist of annoying users with this abomination...

Plasma 5.27 Beta live with Flatpak settings, multi-monitor upgrade, SteamOS updater
19 January 2023 at 7:27 pm UTC

Quoting: mr-victoryThis time KDE stole from Microsoft, the new tiling feature is probably inspired by Win11's corresponding feature.

Fancyzones or something like that? Yeah that is kinda similar - but i guess once every ten years MS also has a decent idea that indeed is FOR the user for a change ;)

Plasma 5.27 Beta live with Flatpak settings, multi-monitor upgrade, SteamOS updater

The pace of KDE is really impressive again and again ^^
I agree that multi-monitor improvements are very welcomed - all in all it works well here, but when i have to switch my primary monitor to my tv because some game doesn't want to go on anything but the primary, i have to re-sort my panels afterwards (which, to be fair, is rather quick nowadays thanks to the 'manage desktops and panels' addition from a few releases back) - so i'm curious if that is fixed then :D
And integrating the flatseal-functionality is nice for sure.

What i'm really looking forward to with 5.27 is the 'semi-tiling' additions, they sound great in theory at least ^^

The Division 2 launched on Steam but no support of Steam Deck or Linux

I'm really not surprised they fucked this up - i mean, when is the last time, ubisoft did anything right? Compared to them, EA almost seems competent...

State of the industry: MSI offered a chance to win the ability to buy a GPU

I thought we were over this bullshit?

But given how the availability of the 4080 is looking, i truly believe (even more than at the beginning) that nvidia is either having pretty bad yield issues on the full Ada chips (somewhat unlikely given the state of quadro) or purposely limiting supplies of the 4090 to make the impression that 'most people are willing to shell out such absurd amounts of money' and further try to normalize the rip off. And perhaps even 'convince' people that are hesitant (read: sane) until now that their resistance is futile....

System76 teasing new fully AMD powered Pangolin Linux laptop

Quoting: Nico7asThe Starfighter also packs a 4K+ display
Which is more of a downside in my book. Who would need 4k on a tiny 15" screen?! 1080p is 150 PPI, which is already OK in my book. 1440p may be intersting to some, but 4k is just overkill while decreasing battery life. And that's not even considering the still occurring scaling issues...

I find the pangolin quite interesting, now i only would need to be in the market for a laptop ^^

Remember to support the projects you use and appreciate

Very important topic, yes.
I put aside a few hundred bucks every year to donate to various projects at the end of the year, but i must admit though that those mostly go to bigger projects like KDE and the small 'auxiliary' projects often get overlooked. If i discover a neat small project and start to use it, i sometimes donate a few bucks directly, but of course that often gets overlooked if the project 'just works' and i don't think about it anymore ^^

Decky Loader makes Steam Deck plugins even EASIER with new installer

Neat - the 'old' way was even easier via ssh though...not even a need to go into desktop mode :D

I really wished we had those plugins for the desktop steam client to - i miss protondb and HLTB when i browse there ^^

ASUS stick an OLED display into a controller, Dell want to reinvent it
7 January 2023 at 10:47 am UTC

Quoting: elmapulthis is like the dreamcast controller that use magnets to "work forever without drift" ?
It really seems that dreamcast used hall effect - makes it even more absurd that it isn't the standard since then ^^
Quoting: elmapuli wonder if you can use the magnets to make the stick harder or softer to move without wearing it out, it would be a cool haptic feedback feature.
I don't think so, the magnets are permanent magnets that produce a magnetic field whose change the hall sensor picks up.

Quoting: MayeulCI think you can pretty easily replace those sticks with hall effect sensors. There are even some for the Steam Deck. I saw something about this in a "Linus Tech Tips" video ("ultimate steam deck", IIRC)
Yeah, Gulikit offers replacements for the Deck.
That's no help for other controllers though and absolutely no excuse for the producers of all the other controllers ^^
