Woah, that really looks neat. I wonder if my old Floppy and CD-Version would also work...yep, they do:
The app requires the player to own and have installation of the original X-Wing game, or have the GOG or Steam versions of X-Wing Special Edition (either the 1993 floppy, the 1994 CD, and/or 1998 Windows edition)
Very cool :D

Escape Simulator drops the Linux build to focus on supporting Proton

Kind of understandable. Although the argument regarding multiple distros doesn't really work anymore with valves linux-runtime.

The only real downside i see with proton is that the startup-time is much longer than native builds, but for most games that isn't really an issue i'd say.

I completely agree that pushing for more vulkan adoption first is probably the better approach than to insist on native versions.
At least if proton is officially supported and tested against, as seems to be the case here.

GOG add support for authenticator apps for two-factor authentication (2FA)

I don´t think that Steam Guard is less secure tbh.
But it is proprietary and forces the use of iOS or Android, that's the real gripe i have with it.

So: Kudos GoG (about time!), now Valve just has to follow up.

Valve announce SteamOS Compatibility ratings, an extension of Steam Deck Verified for more devices

And now they should just mandate testing of new updates on proton if a game is verified or marked as compatible ;)

Black Mesa 'Resonance Decade' update out now with Linux and Steam Deck improvements and a big sale

Black Mesa probably is the best remaster/remake in history. Really love what those guys have achieved, so kudos! (and now i want to go for another round, despite this huge pile.... )

Playtron wanted to take on Windows and SteamOS with their GameOS, now they're announcing a cryptocurrency

This collaboration highlights the power of programmable money applied to real-world use cases
If only they would highlight even a single, even remotely worthwhile use case, this statement wouldn't be a complete joke...

THE FINALS broke again on Linux Desktop / Steam Deck, Valve updated Proton Hotfix to fix it

Once again kudos to Valve to fix this fuckup so quickly.
And at the same time: Shame on Embark for such stupidity!
It still baffles me that Dev apparently still don't even run a single Test on Proton before releasing a patch nowadays...

Epic reduce their cut to 0% for the first $1 million in revenue for devs on the Epic Games Store

Talk about desperate...

It baffles me that they still haven't understood that their take on "convincing the developers" only works if they manage to achieve widespread exclusivity. As this anti-consumer scheme thankfully has failed colossally, they have to understand that in order to gain traction, they have to deliver reasons for the customers to come to them.
Right now, from a consumer standpoint, there are exactly zero reasons to even consider buying a game on EGS instead of Steam or GoG. Instead, there are plenty of reasons to prefer one of the other two over EGS.

Junk Store plugin for Steam Deck plans new release as closed-source paid software to run other stores

So they implemented epic, gog and amazon support without using any code from GPL projects like legendary, heroic-gogdl or nile, in less than a year, with a team of two where only one is a coder. Impressive!
Exactly my first thought (or maybe second after "proprietary? no thank you!").
If they are honest, i wish them all the best, but this smells more like a "i really hope that the GPL gets enforced here...". We'll see how it plays out i guess...

Discord wants developers to stick it inside their games with a new SDK

Dear game developers: please just don't!
