In fact, what is really sad is that even native builds are no guarantee... We just got another proof of that (along with Natural Selection 2). Due to the rate of updates involved in those games, Linux is really vulnerable when it comes to online games.

Fortunately, I'm not a big fan of online games and got my copy of RL when I bought one of my Steam Controllers... When it wasn't even available on Linux... And that's another juicy chapter of RL on Linux... Oh well... We saw it coming, but it's not less frustrating.

Could the "unpopular" decisions Psyonix made lately turned out to be their downfall? The game might still be popular, but are the incomes as good as it once was? Could it play a part as to why they decided to drop MacOS and Linux? That's the usual pattern...
I think the two main reasons are:
they want RTX and they want anti cheat. For an online Game, you make money by either expanding your audience, or continuously milking your current audience. The former is a lot easier to do, so if say most reviews complain about basic graphics (it's a simple game, why wouldn't it), or a cheating problem, it's way cheaper to sacrifice two smaller platforms but expand on Windows, rather than support anyone else.

It's an understandable decision, though a regrettable one, and certainly not the worst they could have made: I prefer it not being on Linux anymore to it being riddled with MTs. That's also probably why PUBG and the less enjoyable counterpart might never come to Linux. Continuous testing for a very marginal improvement in market share. Of course not an issue, if Proton were able to work with those features.

Godot Engine continues advancing Vulkan support, plus Nakama Godot first release

Quoting: appetrosyanWe got to make a game that uses Godoy go viral! It’s an app looking for a killer application.
True, but I suspect it'll be more like Blender (and Linux, I guess), just quietly gaining respect under the radar until one day you look around and find there's a ton of high-quality commercial games built on it.
Which is exactly why we need a Killer APP

Quoting: EverLinuxEpic follows opposite trends by funding open-source projects like Krita or Blender through mega-grants while excluding Linux from their store (and now from Steam with that!)... like if they try to buy back themself.:O
I'm really afraid for the long-term support of their (so impressive) Unreal Engine for our platform.

Question regarding the refund:
I've bought RL using the humble store. Is it possible to get a refund on the steam wallet for such a case?
Yes there is a way. See Liam's post.

I don't believe that the Unreal Engine is that impressive. Sure it has some of the bleeding edge stuff and a low barrier for entry... But so does Unity, and that engine has many more games I like; like Dungeons, Homeworld Deserts of Kharak.

Oh and Godot engine. We NEED to make a blockbuster based on that engine to make it prime time!!!

Quoting: legluondunetFor the moment you can still play this game, why to ask for a refund now?
Wait until you will have a real good reason for asking a refund: if they add EAC protection for example.
Later it might not work... They're processing the refunds now, and there should be backlash to a bad decision.

Don’t really see what you’re on about. They would have dropped Linux support anyway. Just that now there’s a slight chance that it could work.

I’m quite sure that you may not be allowed to partake if on steroids, hence anti-cheats, and or have a disease that makes you produce more of said hormone.

That being said, I’m quite sure that there’s a ton of ways that we could creat a FOSS game that does essentially the same.

Let’s see how it goes with Proton
Apparently it works better
Well, if they are switching things up internally there might be new incompatibilities there too.

Quoting: appetrosyanSpeaking of which: I propose the following nomenclature, for anyone who (like me) feels like a 12 year old.
I always find that such name-calling reflects much more poorly on the person using it than their opponent. Being opposed to something doesn’t mean you can’t be civilized towards it.
I mean if you read on beyond the first few, you’ll notice that name calling is not the point. We’re trying to soften the blow by euphemising the wording of what happened, which I’m not at all a fan of.

This is exactly why we shouldn't be giving epicFAIL the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully they will soon run themselves into the ground.

Speaking of which: I propose the following nomenclature, for anyone who (like me) feels like a 12 year old.
Linux - GNU + Linux
Epic Games - epicFail games (formerly known as epicMegaFail Games).
Unreal Engine - Unethical engine.
epic store - the other platform
epic megagrant - Cheap publicity stunt
was acquired by epic - will get axed sooner rather than later
will run through proton, but will not be supported - Will be actively made incompatible with Steam play.
new technologies - Nvidia Gimmicks forced down their throat
Nvidia - Ngreedy'a
DirectX 12 Engine Upgrade - Direct X Downgrade, forced in typical Microsoft fashion.

Anything that doesn't already run decently via proton and has issues with multiplayer. So:]
- Monster Hunter World.
- PUBG
- Nioh 2
