Hearts of Iron IV's espionage-themed expansion, La Résistance, is a fun addition to a hard-fought war

But that is a matter of days or weeks in-game, not months.
Still, I could see espionage operations giving a malus to that planning bonus, would make sense.
Also, I am relatively sure that the game does have the concept of months-long plans. I could imagine that it makes a plan or decides on something and then works towards that goal over the course of time. At least I hope it does that... "decide on a goal and work towards it" is kind of the minimum of a useful AI.
Finding out as Germany where exactly the invasion is going to happen would be cool, but it would also be pointless as frankly the AI is just incapable of doing naval invasions - that's the no.1 reason Axis is overwhelmingly strong currently.
Its historical weakness - no naval control - just doesn't matter much in HoI4.
Instead of doing a proper invasion with tons of troops and support at a focal point, it just sends waves after waves of small amounts of troops to perish at the coast. It's a meatgrinder and it never even comes close to reaching the invasion cap.
Basically, if you as a player don't do a proper naval invasion, it just won't happen.
I once won WW2 for the Allies (as Canada!) by establishing a stable bridgehead in Italy.
Once there is a stable bridgehead, your AI allies are happy to make use of it.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThis time lapse means that if you have good espionage you can find out about an enemy operation significantly before it actually happens, and prepare. But that function just isn't relevant in games because that time lapse doesn't exist. You could build it in, but if you weren't careful it would make the game boring. This definitely exists in HoI4. But it is a bonus that is applied to the troops - the longer they are "in place" before you attack, the bigger the bonus (up to a cap).

The compliance system in particular is really interesting.
It will finally allow smaller nations to actually benefit from occupied territories manpower-wise. It was always a bit absurd how you didn't gain any noticeable manpower from conquered states. Even years after conquering them when one could argue that some form of government and stability surely has been established by now.
Might actually make some minor runs (e.g. Communist Greece) way more viable now.
And of course, the Agency itself will also give minors a bit more to do.

Quoting: DuncGreat work, guys. Now do Cities: Skylines. (Yeah, I know it's not in-house, but surely they could give Collosal Order some tips?)Tips aren't going to help much if their code architecture isn't even similar.

Valve has banned tens of thousands of Dota 2 accounts as they tweak their smurf detection

You are just trying to get started, but even on the lowest ranks, the average skill level seems to be way above your own. That's not much fun, and no doubt causes a lot of people to leave.
I play card games often (currently Eternal, since Elder Scrolls Legends shuts down) and the problem is the same there. You're just getting started, have some beginners deck - and are matched against another player who has a high-tier deck full of expensive/rare cards. On the lowest of ranks. Sure, some of them might be whales, but not nearly all.
I suspect many are smurfing there as well - though I have no clue as to why.

Quoting: 14It's been a while since I've played Dota. Maybe it's time to try it out again. What pushed me away last time was players expecting me to play better than I am. Dota is not my life, so no I can't play as if it was. Many competitive games have this problem, IMO.

What is happening is now that 3.2 is out of the door, all the projects that were being worked on already for 4.0 are being merged into master.
This, the NavigationServer (new navigation, yay! unfortunately too late for me as I want to use Godot 3.2 and am rolling my own navigation: https://github.com/TheSHEEEP/godotdetour [External Link] ), and I have no doubt more will be merged with master in the coming months.

Valve making steps to address toxic behaviour on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
11 Feb 2020 at 3:51 pm UTC
People react to stress/frustration in different ways. If everyone who started saying stupid shit in a moment of anger would immediatly be branded an asshole, I don't think we'd get very far ;)
I rather have people venting and calling me names than trying to swallow their anger, which might be nicer for me in the moment, but would ultimately just lead to more profound problems than me being bothered. Of course, just being angry all the time and raging at everything constantly isn't healthy, either, if you do not happen to be green and mutated.
But it is for the latter cases I see measures like Valve's reporting being useful.
I think this is way more pronounced in games that are not only competitive, but also highly team-oriented.
At least, I, personally, find it a lot more frustrating to lose due to someone else's mistakes than due to my own - which makes me more sad/sorry for my team than frustrated.
And DotA/LoL, in contrast to Overwatch, is highly team-oriented from the get-go. While you can get pretty far in Overwatch carrying your team mostly alone / being carried by someone else in your team - at least on the lower-mid ranks.
Which I think is the other takeaway of this - it is mostly the lower-mid ranks that have the most douchebags. Guess that would make a nice research paper, wouldn't it?

Quoting: LakortaNot really.Quoting: TheSHEEEPIf you act like an asshole, even if it is due to frustration or stress, doesn't that make you an asshole?Quoting: KimyrielleAs a general remark: I got quite some experience with bullies, both online and offline. And honestly, if I had a dime for every time I heard the line "Take a chill pill! It's just a game!!!" when somebody tried to excuse being an asshole in a game, I'd be rich.By now I'm 90% sure those "assholes" and "bullies" you met online were just venting some frustration, which you somehow took personal and made a much bigger issue of than it really is.
Competitiveness leads to high stress levels, which lead to people being frustrated, which leads to venting - which usually isn't nice, true, but it's just part of the environment. And especially kids and teens are prone to that due to a general lack of self-control.
Which some people will do relentlessly and those need to be muted (trust me, I wish Mordhau had such a feature back when I played it). But if someone just goes sweary for a moment and then shuts up (which is the vast majority), there's no reason to step in.

Quoting: LakortaAlso from my own experience from games like DotA or LoL there are alot of people who act consistently in a toxic manner (or: like assholes). No doubt.

It is never good or fun if people lose their jobs, but I think fans of the series might have dodged a bullet here.
I'd rather have no SS3 at all than one forced out after a very troubled development, half-baked and with all the other negative attributes that usually follow a development story like this.
At least this way, the series can still be considered flawless - nowhere near the nightmare Fallout 3 was for Fallout fans (and that was actually a finished game that didn't go through development hell).
And who knows, maybe one day, someone else will pick it up and do it well.
Though, yeah, they are under the same development house, so there is no doubt at least management failed across the studios.

Quoting: NeverthelessThe late but very, very premature release of Underworld Ascendant was a big disappointment. It crashed every enthusiasm for the game and bad reviews destroyed sales almost completely. Even the big patchup that followed, which repaired big parts of the mess didn't help. Sales never recovered. It should be noted that the SS3 team is NOT the same as the UA team.
When the publisher they chose for SS3 (Starbreeze) got into financial troubles, Otherside bought back the publishing rights from them and (to my knowledge) never found a new publisher for it.
So I guess you're right, "it was surprising they had enough to continue on with System Shock 3 at all".

Nice to see Ion Fury ranks generally high among the votes.
A bit surprised to see Tomb Raider in the first place, as it bored me rather quickly and I couldn't even get more than 10 hours in.
But that was mostly due to the game being pretty much a carbon copy of the previous game (with some improvements) and there's only so much I can take of that formula within a few years it seems...
